Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah is remembered as a brave yet tragic figure in the history of Bengal. He was born in 1733. From his childhood, he was courageous, confident, and somewhat emotional. His grandfather was Nawab Alivardi Khan, the ruler of Bengal. Alivardi Khan loved Siraj very much and prepared him to become the future ruler.
🌿 Childhood and Becoming Nawab
Siraj grew up in the royal palace. He learned warfare, politics, and administration from his grandfather. Alivardi Khan believed that Siraj would be a capable ruler. Before his death, he declared Siraj as the next Nawab of Bengal.
After the death of Alivardi Khan in 1756, Siraj-ud-Daulah became the Nawab of Bengal at a very young age. However, after becoming Nawab, he faced many challenges. Many landlords and court officials disliked him and started plotting against him.
⚔️ Conflict with the British
At that time, the British East India Company was trying to increase its power in Bengal. They were building forts and storing weapons without the Nawab's permission. Siraj-ud-Daulah became very angry and decided to stop them.
He attacked Calcutta and defeated the British forces there. This made the British frightened, and they began planning revenge.
🛡️ The Battle of Plassey
On 23 June 1757, the famous Battle of Plassey took place between Siraj-ud-Daulah and the British. Siraj's army was larger in number, but one of his commanders, Mir Jafar, secretly betrayed him by supporting the British.
During the battle, Mir Jafar and his soldiers did not fight. As a result, Siraj's army became weak and he was defeated. This battle was a major turning point in the loss of independence of Bengal.
💔 The Last Days
After losing the battle, Siraj tried to escape, but he was captured. Later, he was killed by the followers of Mir Jafar. At that time, Siraj was only about 24 years old.
🌟 Siraj-ud-Daulah in History
Siraj-ud-Daulah is known as the last independent Nawab of Bengal. He was brave and fought to protect his country. Although he was defeated because of betrayal, he is still remembered as a heroic figure in history.
