Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: An Excellent Teacher

Walking into the empty classroom with vacant eyes, Amanda turned around to face all the students of Ravenclaw House, nearly all of Hufflepuff House, and about half of the Little Lions from Gryffindor.

Scanning their expectant gazes indifferently, Amanda spoke mechanically.

"Today we will learn Expelliarmus. It is a very useful spell that can disarm an opponent of their weapons, including wands, Muggle firearms, or anything the opponent holds that you define as a weapon."

Amanda paused for a moment, continuing only after ensuring everyone had heard clearly.

"Expelliarmus is effective against most Wizards because few can perform wandless magic; only some powerful Wizards can do so. Therefore, except for that group, other Wizards essentially lose their ability to resist after being hit with Expelliarmus."

"At the same time, a powerful Expelliarmus also has the ability to knock an opponent back."

After Amanda's explanation, the Young Wizards in the lower years who hadn't learned Expelliarmus yet came to a sudden realization, gaining a deeper understanding of the spell's effects.

The older Young Wizards looked at each other, wondering if they had underestimated Expelliarmus.

"The incantation for the Disarming Charm is Expelliarmus."

Amanda's pronunciation was methodical, extremely standard, and slow; everyone present heard her clearly.

"Please repeat after me: Expelliarmus."

"Expelliarmus." The Young Wizards in the classroom repeated the incantation, mimicking Amanda's pronunciation.

Amanda's gaze swept quickly through the crowd, and her brain automatically differentiated the sounds in her ears.

Every person's pronunciation was matched to the individual.

"Mr. Parsons, Expelliarmus. Please say it again."

Locking her gaze on a third-year Hufflepuff boy, Amanda looked at him expressionlessly.

"Expelliarmus."

Parsons tried hard to mimic Amanda's pronunciation and said it again; to Amanda's ears, it sounded significantly better than the last time.

However, there were still some issues, which she corrected bit by bit.

Amanda then pointed out every Young Wizard who had pronunciation issues one by one.

The Young Wizards didn't feel embarrassed; it was normal to have mistakes pointed out.

Moreover, Amanda's attitude was so gentle that those who had experienced Potion Class felt as if they were basking in a spring breeze.

While the others felt like they were in a spring breeze, Hermione watched Amanda with some surprise.

Everyone had just recited the incantation together once, right?

Was that single recitation enough for her to hear which Young Wizards had pronunciation issues and what those issues were?

Amanda's focus and analytical skills were constantly refreshing her perception.

Hermione clicked her tongue inwardly, watching Amanda begin to teach the wand movements after correcting everyone's pronunciation.

Amanda flicked her wand lightly, performing the wand movement for Expelliarmus. Every motion was precise to the millimeter, almost exactly as described in the books.

The Young Wizards below followed suit, waving their wands. Amanda's gaze patrolled the room again.

Sure enough, as soon as they stopped, Amanda spoke.

Unlike with the pronunciation, this time she called out everyone.

After all, the Young Wizards weren't her; they couldn't perfectly replicate her movements.

There were more or less some deviations, which in Amanda's eyes were clearly errors that couldn't be ignored during the learning process.

"Don't rush. Take it slow. Try again."

"You can lower your arm a bit more. Yes, well done."

She corrected their movements tirelessly, not letting even the smallest detail slide.

Normally, students might get impatient in such a situation.

But in fact, not a single Young Wizard showed any sign of impatience.

Although Amanda lacked tone and her speech was cold and stiff, everyone could feel her gentleness and concern through her words.

She's coaxing them to learn! This thought occurred simultaneously to the Young Wizards.

In that case, how could they not work hard? Whatever Amanda said, goes! Come on, study hard!

An indescribable fighting spirit erupted among the Young Wizards; with repeated corrections, muscle memory quickly formed.

Amanda's attention split into hundreds of parts, focusing on everyone present.

The first to finish practice and meet Amanda's requirement wasn't an upper-year student, but Hermione.

After Amanda nodded to her, Hermione understood and waved her wand at the Mannequin at the front of the classroom. "Expelliarmus!"

Bang! The Mannequin flew backward and slammed heavily into the wall.

The first and second-year Young Wizards cheered, applauding Hermione's brilliant performance.

The remaining upper-year students who had already learned Expelliarmus looked at Hermione in near disbelief.

Such power? Are the lower-year students these days all so fierce?

If Hermione alone left them in disbelief, Harry's subsequent performance left them somewhat numb.

The power of his Expelliarmus even slightly exceeded Hermione's, making Harry chuckle secretly to himself.

As the corrections were completed, Penelope, Cho Chang, and Marietta also finished their first spellcasting after "re-learning" Expelliarmus.

"The power has indeed increased." Cho Chang lowered her wand and turned to Marietta.

Marietta nodded in agreement, while Penelope beside them was filled with ill-concealed excitement.

"Is it because the wand movements and pronunciation are more standard?"

The studious Ravenclaws clearly had their curiosity piqued.

"Yes," Amanda, who had been monitoring everyone's progress, came over to the three of them and spoke affirmatively.

"The more standard the wand movements and pronunciation, the stronger the magic cast with the same amount of magical power."

Amanda stated this without any emotion in her voice, and everyone who heard her began practicing even more vigorously.

Especially the upper-year students, who truly became serious.

Amanda had initially estimated fifteen minutes for learning Expelliarmus.

From learning the correct movements and pronunciation to successful casting, and then to proficient application—being able to use it in actual combat with silent, instantaneous casting to ensure its effectiveness.

A total of fifteen minutes; this was the result of her slowing down her own standards by twofold.

Unfortunately, the results didn't go as she expected. It took fifteen minutes just to reach the step where everyone could successfully cast the spell.

Drawing her wand, Amanda stood in the middle of everyone. Without moving her wand or chanting, all the desks and chairs in the classroom automatically rose into the air and stacked themselves into the four corners.

The Little Eagles, Little Badgers, and Little Lions all swallowed hard, looking at Amanda nervously.

Slowly raising her wand, Amanda's gaze swept indifferently over everyone. "Use Expelliarmus on me. Try to disarm my wand."

"A reminder: the probability of disarming my wand with a verbal spell is nearly zero. I suggest using Non-verbal spells."

As soon as Amanda finished her reminder, the Young Wizards surrounding her all put on "pain masks."

Suggesting Non-verbal spells... Is it that they don't want to use them? It's that they can't!

Aside from some upper-year students, the others weren't even guaranteed success if they tried.

"Started."

Amanda spoke indifferently, her eyes scanning everyone present.

An unspoken pressure instantly loomed over everyone's heads.

They had to disarm her quickly; the same thought surged in everyone's minds.

"Expelliarmus!"

"Expelliarmus!"

Incantations rang out continuously. Amanda waved her wand nonchalantly, easily parrying the Disarming Charms flying toward her.

Her feet never stopped moving; a large portion of the spells couldn't even get near her, hitting the ground nearby instead.

The sound of the incantations helped her identify exactly who was casting, allowing her to parry the spells directly.

Her meticulous observation allowed her to see everyone's gaze and the subtle movements of their arms, using them to predict the direction of their spells and dodge in advance.

Aided by Amanda's terrifying focus and analytical skills, not a single one of the Expelliarmus spells cast by over a hundred people could hit her.

Immersed in the tension and continuously firing spells, none of the Young Wizards noticed this.

Quite a few upper-year students were even using Non-verbal spells without realizing it.

But still, no one could break through Amanda's "defense line."

Raising her left hand, she glanced indifferently at her watch; ten minutes had passed since the start of the practical training.

For ten minutes, everyone had been casting Expelliarmus without pause.

The first-year Young Wizards had already collapsed onto the floor to rest, while among the second-years, only Hermione, Harry, and Ron were still persisting.

Half of the third-years remained, but they were all drenched in sweat, clearly having consumed a lot of magic.

The students in other years were slightly better off, but they too showed obvious signs of exhaustion.

After mechanically checking everyone's state of fatigue, Amanda knew it was time to end.

Sensing someone behind her, Amanda instinctively started to turn to parry the spell, but her peripheral vision caught Hermione's figure.

Her movements stiffened for a split second. Hermione had been firing Expelliarmus at her all along, but she had parried them all.

But this time was different; Hermione was looking at her with total concentration, her lips pressed tightly together.

Hermione was going to use a Non-verbal spell.

Amanda understood instantly. She looked at the other students who were still trying and refusing to give up.

For some reason, she suddenly remembered the distant past, back before she had ever been on that operating table.

After working as hard as possible to learn two years' worth of knowledge in advance, she received a test paper only to find the teacher was testing even more advanced material.

What did she feel back then? She wasn't sure, only remembering that she seemed to have shed tears. Amanda's brain throbbed slightly.

I should let them succeed. Her brain reached this conclusion from deep within the pain. Amanda gave up her defense, letting Hermione's silent Expelliarmus hit her hand and knock her wand away.

"Success!"

"Miss Granger, well done!"

Seeing Amanda's wand finally fly off, the Young Wizards present couldn't help but cheer together.

Amanda tilted her head and lightly raised her right hand; every single person's wand instantly flew out of their hands.

"The last point I want to make: when magical power is strong enough, Expelliarmus can affect more than one person at a time."

After saying this expressionlessly, Amanda lowered her hand, and everyone's wands returned to them.

This way, they won't become complacent from success. Amanda made this judgment in her mind, then nodded to the others, took her wand back from Hermione, and walked out of the classroom.

After students achieve good results or perform well, it's best to give them a bit of a blow.

This is to prevent them from becoming complacent. Amanda clearly remembered her parents and teachers doing exactly that.

Watching Amanda leave the classroom, the Young Wizards, having retrieved their wands, looked at each other.

They deeply realized the gap between them. With Amanda's current skills, if it were a real battle, they probably wouldn't be enough to take her on even if they all attacked at once.

Hermione snapped out of it, shook her head with a smile, put away her wand, and quickly chased after her.

"Amanda!" Hermione ran forward in a few strides and grabbed her arm.

Amanda turned her head stiffly to look at Hermione. "Hermione, what is it?"

"Thanks for taking it easy on me just now." Hermione stuck out her tongue, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Amanda.

"You're welcome. I just felt that I should let you all succeed once."

Amanda stated her thoughts in a voice like stagnant water.

"Hmm, but I'm actually a bit surprised that I could successfully use a Non-verbal spell."

A look of reflection and pride appeared on Hermione's face; she never hid her self-confidence or pride.

She always displayed it generously, like the sun, radiating her light and heat in all directions.

"Your foundation is very good. A Non-verbal spell is just a natural, inevitable result."

Amanda spoke the conclusion her analysis easily provided.

Hermione rubbed her nose a bit self-consciously, holding Amanda's arm as they walked toward the Great Hall.

"You're also really amazing, Amanda. You could be called a very excellent teacher."

"I am not an excellent teacher. I am just a student."

"That's not true," Hermione smiled and shook her head, reaching out to smooth Amanda's hair. "You have patience, you notice every one of us, you're strict but your tone is gentle, and you teach both theory and practice."

"You even considered our feelings and thought about letting me succeed once," Hermione couldn't help but laugh at this point. "As for you disarming all of us at the end..."

"Was it because you heard everyone cheering, so you did it? Afraid we'd get arrogant?"

"Yes." Amanda nodded affirmatively; Hermione's analysis of her thoughts was very accurate.

Except for that part about considering everyone's feelings and letting Hermione successfully disarm her... had she... really thought that?

"So," Hermione let go of Amanda's arm and walked ahead of her, walking backward with her hands spread out, "you are an excellent teacher."

An excellent teacher... Amanda blinked unconsciously. But the "excellent teacher" Hermione spoke of was very different from the "excellent teacher" she knew.

Was it because the worlds were different, the schools were different, so the definition of an excellent teacher was also different?

Amanda didn't feel confused, but her brain began to think and reflect on it automatically.
