"I accuse you of more than negligence, Father," Evelina said, her voice steady and terrifying. "I accuse you of complicity."

The King leaned forward, his interest piqued. The drama was far more entertaining than he had expected. "If you were seeking safety, Lady Evelina, why were you not in the Capital? Why were you at a village near the Southern Border? My scouts report a great deal of... unusual movement in that region since you arrived."

Evelina's heart skipped a beat. This was the dangerous ground. She couldn't mention the Snow Tribe; that was a military secret. She couldn't mention the popcorn factory or the technological advancements she was introducing; the Church would call it heresy and the Crown would seize it as a monopoly.

"I..." she hesitated. "The Southern climate was recommended for my recovery."
