When Evelina opened her eyes, the cold stone of the library and the smell of rotting paper were gone. She was standing in an endless expanse of white clouds—the "White Zone," as she had mentally labeled it during her previous brief visits.
But this time, the emptiness was gone. Surrounding her were fifteen people. They were a jarring sight—some wore the rough tunics of peasants, others the flowing, star-dusted robes of ancient high mages. But one woman stood out. She was dressed in a simple, modern t-shirt and jeans, looking like she had just stepped out of a cafe.
The woman looked at Evelina and beamed, her eyes lighting up with a spark of pure relief. "Finally!! Someone from Earth!"
