Lu Hongze was woken up by thirst.

His throat felt as if it were stuffed with sandpaper; every swallow and breath brought a tearing pain.

He opened his eyes, and what met his gaze wasn't the white ceiling of his familiar room, but an endless, unfamiliar azure sky.

The wind brushed against his skin, carrying the scent of grass and soil, along with a hint of... a floral fragrance he had never smelled before.

He propped himself up, only to let out a muffled groan and collapse back onto the ground.

Every bone and limb felt drained of strength, as if he were recovering from a major illness. He looked down at his hands; the fingers were slender and the palms soft—this was definitely not the body of a man who had performed manual labor.

He seemed extremely "frail."

Lying on the ground, he forced himself to calm down and process the available information.

This was an open clearing, with several... watchtowers in the distance? If he wasn't mistaken, that's what they were. There were many trees nearby, but he didn't know the species; he had never seen such trees before.

Fortunately, there was a river nearby.

After assessing his surroundings, he began to observe himself.

"This stuff looks like it was snatched directly from a historical drama set." The coarse fibers rubbed against his delicate skin, already causing patches of red marks. The fabric of his top was stiff and thick, fitting poorly; the shoulder seams sagged to his elbows, while the hem was too short, revealing a small section of his slender waist. The trouser legs barely covered his calves, and his feet were bare, already marked with tiny bloody scratches from grass and pebbles.

The clothes were covered in stains—dried mud made the hem stick out stiffly, dark green grass stains were splotched here and there, and there was a dark water stain on his chest from some unknown time, emitting a faint musty smell... Five minutes later.

Lu Hongze felt a bit uneasy. It was too quiet here. Aside from the sound of the wind and birdsong, it lacked the background noise typical of modern civilization... After about ten minutes, Lu Hongze felt he had regained a bit of strength. He pushed himself up with one hand and walked slowly, step by step, toward the river.

Upon reaching it, he knelt by the riverbank, leaned down, and gulped down the river water.

The cool river water temporarily suppressed the burning pain in his throat, but it also made a sharper pang of hunger clearly surface.

He pondered for a moment and stood up again.

Walking toward the nearby woods, he looked up and noticed a type of tree bearing yellow fruit.

But even with a desperate leap, he found he couldn't reach them. Looking down, he noticed some unknown berries growing sparsely on the bushes, some already pecked by birds.

He waited patiently for nearly twenty minutes, and only after confirming no birds had died from eating them did he cautiously pick a few of the most inconspicuous ones to stave off his hunger.

The sour and astringent juice spread through his mouth. Though hard to swallow, his stomach finally had something in it, and the burning sensation subsided. That faint warmth allowed him to recover some strength and made him more clearly aware of his situation—he had to find a safer, more stable food source and a shelter to stay overnight and hide from the rain.

He turned his gaze once more toward the high-hanging yellow fruit. Just then, an unnatural rustling came from the nearby bushes.

Lu Hongze's entire body tensed up instantly. Almost by instinct, he dove into the bushes.

Then, he began to observe cautiously.

"Gulu gulu... gulu gulu"

It wasn't a person.
