Chapter 28 - Silently Dangerous
"Indeed," Stavan said with a strained smile, as he grabbed his leather footwear from the edge of the bath.
His gaze moved over Lowie accessingly. Staying for a beat too long.
Something coiled in Ismena's belly when she noticed that, and his next words proved that she had been right to worry.
"Where did a servant learn to throw a blade like that?"
Lowie stiffened and averted her gaze, bowing more than she had done earlier.
"Luck requires no training."
"A woman with a weapon." Stavan continued, as if Ismena had said nothing.
Then his attention shifted to Ismena, his grip tightening around his footwear, his voice oozing with worry. "I fear she cannot wait on you with such an unladylike attitude, especially with the dangerous blades around her." He tilted his head to the side, his voice grave. "We have guards for all the protection we need. Soldiers. Warriors. Knights. Not mere servants."
