As though summoned by her yell, a chorus of panicked footsteps dashed into the room.
My heart sank when I saw that the first head that emerged through the door was none other than Cassian's, not Soren's, followed by the guards. From the corner of my eyes, I caught Violet's triumphant expression right before she replaced it with an expression of horror. She dashed towards Cassian with shaky legs, forcing him to steady her with his hands.
"What's the matter?" Cassian demanded, staring at Violet before turning his gaze on me, and then finally to Willow on the bed.
Seeing her worsening complexion, he immediately shoved Violet aside and stormed over to take a closer look, a muscle twitching in his jaw as his eyes darted over my sister's paling face. Violet's face twisted in dissatisfaction at Cassian's callous actions.
It was very clear to me that Violet's importance in Cassian's heart was way behind my sister's. If the situation wasn't so dire, I would have laughed.
