Chapter 80 - Chapter 80: The Demon God Awakens, It Feels Like the first season Again

January 4th, 11 PM.

Shiga Taka sat in front of the TV, watching the first episode of the second season of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.

Lelouch had lost his memories as Zero, forfeited the King's Power, and reverted to being just an ordinary student with a high IQ. Nunnally was gone, replaced by Rolo, a younger brother who seemed to have come out of nowhere. Not only were the numerous plot holes left open from the first season left unfilled, but even more questions had arisen. This made Shiga Taka frown deeply as he watched.

He couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.

Of course, part of it might have been because the Black Knights had lost the grand finale of the first season, the Great Tokyo Battle. Many of their key members had been captured, and the Japanese people's situation hadn't improved at all. Instead, they faced even more brutal and unfair treatment.

As a Japanese man, it was inevitable that he would feel dissatisfied when putting himself in their shoes.

Still, despite his dissatisfaction, Shiga Taka continued watching attentively.

He believed in Lin Zhiyan, believed in LSP, and believed in this animation.

The dissatisfaction was probably just temporary. He'd probably start enjoying it again soon.

On television, inside the casino, Lelouch continued to mock Zero:

"See? The ones enjoying themselves are us Britannians, while the ones working hard and being mocked are the people of Area 11. Even if they pretend to ignore it, the result is the same."

"Area 11 has lost twice—Prime Minister Suzaku and Zero are no different. What's the point of plotting a rebellion without the strength to back it up?"

Soon, Karen, dressed in a bunny girl outfit, appeared as a waitress at the casino.

Carrying two glasses of liquor, she bumped into Lelouch, causing the tray and glasses to fall to the ground and the liquor to spill onto his pants.

"I'm so sorry!" She quickly pulled out a handkerchief and began wiping his pants.

"No, it's fine," Lelouch said, unconcerned.

"I'm from Area 11, and you're a Britannian student."

"Then there's even less need for this. I hate flaunting my status."

"But those without strength must endure, even when they're in the right."

"Don't impose your values on me."

From this exchange, it's clear that Lelouch had forgotten Karen, while Karen, likely still a member of the Black Knights, was probably deliberately approaching him.

Moreover, she was likely no longer a student at the school Lelouch attended. Otherwise, even if he had lost his memory, he wouldn't have failed to recognize her.

I still don't understand what happened in the final scene of the first season. Karen was clearly there at the time, so how did things end up like this?

Shiga Taka was already annoyed by the earlier content, and this only made him more displeased.

Fortunately, a turning point came soon enough.

Inside the casino, a villainous-looking man appeared, grabbing Karen's hair and saying, "What a fine piece of merchandise."

"I'm not a piece of merchandise!" Karen retorted.

"Losers have no rights. Blame yourself for being born into the wrong life. Didn't His Majesty the Emperor say the same thing? Survival of the fittest—that's the law of the world," the man declared arrogantly.

Hearing this, Lelouch's expression darkened. He quickly challenged the man to a game of chess.

The man was a notorious underground chess player known as the "Dark King." How could he possibly fear a mere student like Lelouch?

The two played a game of chess, and Lelouch won without a doubt.

Unlike the situation in the first episode of the first season of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, the so-called "Dark King" refused to concede gracefully after his loss. Instead, he accused Lelouch of cheating, completely disregarding the fact that chess couldn't be rigged.

He pulled out a gun, pointed it at Lelouch, and ordered his subordinates to grab him and fabricate some "evidence."

At the critical moment, the building shook.

The remaining members of the Black Knights launched their attack, and Karen seized the opportunity to strike. In a few swift moves, she knocked the so-called Dark King to the ground. Taking advantage of the ensuing chaos, she grabbed Lelouch and fled.

"Brother!" Rolo shouted, desperately chasing after them.

It wasn't long before the two were caught.

For some inexplicable reason, Karen stumbled, and Rolo seized the opportunity to take Lelouch away.

At the beginning of the episode, the remaining members of the Black Knights mentioned Operation Swallowtail Four. Now, the situation was clear: they were likely trying to rescue Lelouch from his false school life.

Having just successfully rescued Lelouch, the Black Knights were thrown into panic when he was suddenly snatched back.

Meanwhile, imperial forces swiftly arrived at the gambling hall building and clashed fiercely with the Black Knights.

During the battle, to save his younger brother Rolo, Lelouch plummeted from a great height, forcing him to part ways with Rolo.

Fortunately, though he fell, he survived.

He climbed relentlessly upward, determined to return and find Rolo. But halfway up, he encountered a Knightmare Frame.

The cockpit opened, and C.C., dressed in white, emerged. "I've come to fetch you, Lelouch," she said. "I'm your ally. Your enemy is Britannia. We've made a contract. We're accomplices."

"A contract? Accomplices?" Lelouch asked, clearly confused.

"Only I understand the real you," C.C. replied cryptically, offering no further explanation.

"The real... me?" Lelouch murmured, stepping toward her.

But just as he drew near, a gunshot rang out. A bullet struck C.C. in the chest, and she toppled from the Knightmare Frame.

Lelouch froze for a moment, then rushed forward and caught C.C.

"Hey!"

He called out, then looked up and realized a Britannian Army squad had appeared behind him.

"Good work on the mission, student Lelouch Lamperouge," the leader said, emerging from his Knightmare Frame.

He revealed that they had been monitoring Lelouch all along, using him to lure out the Witch C.C.

Now that C.C. was dead and Lelouch's purpose as bait had been fulfilled, the leader ordered his men to "dispose of him," adding, "That way, there'll be no witnesses."

"Dispose of me? We're... going to die? So suddenly, so easily..." Lelouch was stunned.

He gritted his teeth, his expression defiant. "You've got to be kidding! Power! If I just had the power to escape this place, to overcome the world!"

Suddenly, C.C., who had just been "killed," stirred.

She raised her hand, gripped Lelouch's shoulder, and pushed herself up. Then she leaned forward and kissed him on the lips.

A mysterious power connected them.

"Do you want power?"

"You already have it. It's just locked away in the cage of forgetfulness. Remember who you truly are."

"Unseal the King's Power now!"

C.C.'s words echoed in Lelouch's mind, and suddenly, he remembered everything from his past as Zero. The King's Power surged within him.

He released C.C. and stood up beside her, addressing the Britannian soldiers opposite him: "Answer my question before you judge me."

"That woman is still alive? Impossible! I shot her straight through the heart." The soldier seemed more shocked by C.C.'s survival than anything else.

Lelouch continued, "If weakness is sin, then is strength justice? If vengeance is sin, then is friendship justice?"

"There's no such thing as sin or justice. Bait only leads to death." The soldier spoke, completely unaware that he had already been added to Lelouch's death list.

"Is that so?"

Lelouch showed no surprise at this response. "Then I'll give you a path as well. Lelouch V. Britannia orders you... to die!"

The King's Power activated, and the Britannian soldiers before him raised their guns and shot themselves.

Then came Lelouch's inner monologue:

From that day on, I couldn't accept this unnatural, hypocritical life—this distorted timeline, my memories being altered, this cattle-like existence. But the truth has always been pursuing me. Yes, I wasn't wrong—it was the world!

Bang!

The floor collapsed.

Karen, piloting a Guren Type-2, and another Knightmare Frame leaped down from an upper floor, landing before Lelouch.

"The world will change... it can change!" Lelouch muttered to himself.

"We've been waiting for you, Lord Zero. Give the order," the other person, clearly agitated, said.

"Very well."

Lelouch raised his hand and made a slight wave. "Because I am Zero—the one who destroys the world and creates a new one!"

Meanwhile, Suzaku appeared before the Britannian Emperor with two new characters, a man and a woman.

"I will not yield to anyone. The one to kill Zero will be me," Suzaku said coldly.

End of episode.

After watching the entire episode, Shiga Taka's lingering dissatisfaction vanished, replaced by excitement and anticipation.

Lelouch is back!

The original demon has finally returned!

In the final minutes, Lelouch regained his memories and ordered his enemy to commit suicide—a familiar maneuver that was so satisfying it wiped away all the frustration built up during the earlier parts of the episode.

Though many plot holes remained unfilled, and the events of the first season's finale were still unexplained, the show now felt like the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion—it had the same flavor.

Time to start hyping it up again!
