Chapter 20 - CHAPTER 20

Immortality? It's Just a Joke in Front of Amaterasu!

Uchiha Yi had observed the entire exchange between Hidan and Kakuzu without interrupting.

Objectively speaking, aside from the two terrifying abilities Curse of Death Controlling Possessed Blood and his so-called immortality Hidan was not outstanding in other aspects.

His temperament was impulsive.

His thinking was shallow.

His taijutsu was straightforward and lacked refinement.

Compared to elite shinobi trained in assassination, deception, or high-level ninjutsu, Hidan relied almost entirely on recklessness and his ritual technique.

Once an opponent fully understood his ability

Even someone weaker in raw strength could defeat him.

That had already been proven in canon.

During the mission to capture the Two-Tails Jinchūriki, Hidan and Kakuzu faced Team Asuma. Later, Nara Shikamaru, with careful preparation and strategic planning, separated Hidan from Kakuzu and buried him alive.

Immortal

but not invincible.

However, Uchiha Yi understood something most people ignored.

If Hidan's ability were used strategically, its deterrent effect would rival even a Tailed Beast.

If White Zetsu clones secretly infiltrated villages to gather blood samples…

If Hidan remained hidden in a secure location, performing rituals remotely…

If the enemy never realized the connection between their injuries and the curse

Then Hidan would become a walking catastrophe.

Assassinations without physical presence.

No battlefield exposure.

No information leaks.

In theory, if sufficient blood samples were gathered, even Kage-level shinobi could fall silently.

What a terrifying concept.

And yet

No one in Akatsuki ever used Hidan that way.

Instead, he was placed on the front lines as a blunt instrument, paired with Kakuzu for bounty hunting.

A waste of potential.

But Uchiha Yi dismissed the thought.

Opening such a "Pandora's box" would be foolish.

He himself could bleed.

His blood could be stolen.

Until he possessed absolute control over information and subordinates

It was better not to encourage such methods.

At that moment, Hidan grew visibly irritated.

"Hey! Hey!"

"You three keep whispering nonsense!"

"It's annoying!"

"Have you decided how to serve Lord Jashin?!"

Gripping his triple-bladed scythe, he rushed forward recklessly.

"I'll handle him," Uchiha Yi said calmly.

Kakuzu and Konan stepped back without objection.

After all

In Akatsuki, bonds of friendship were nonexistent.

Members cooperated for goals and interests.

Observing a newcomer's combat ability was natural.

Especially one personally acknowledged by Tendo Pain.

They wanted to measure him.

Hidan sneered when he saw only one masked youth standing before him.

"You're looking down on me!"

He swung his scythe horizontally.

The attack speed was not slow for an ordinary shinobi

But under the gaze of a three-tomoe Sharingan, it appeared clear and predictable.

Uchiha Yi merely tilted his body.

The blade missed by inches.

Again.

And again.

Hidan grew increasingly frustrated.

If Uchiha Yi wished, he could have activated his Flame-Flame elementalization to nullify physical strikes entirely.

But that would reveal too much.

More importantly

He wanted to test his own taijutsu limits.

For over ten minutes, they exchanged blows.

From three tomoe…

To two…

To one…

And finally

He suppressed his Sharingan entirely.

Without enhanced perception, Hidan's attacks became significantly more threatening.

His reactions slowed.

His counters became delayed.

Now he felt the gap.

So this was the difference.

With the Sharingan active, especially at three tomoe, Hidan's movements seemed slowed.

Without it

He struggled.

It was precisely why the Uchiha clan experienced a qualitative leap once their Sharingan matured.

Enough testing.

It was time to end this.

As Hidan lunged forward once more

Uchiha Yi did not dodge.

Without hand seals

A ring of flames exploded outward from his body.

"Fire Release: Ring of Resistance!"

The sudden radial burst forced Hidan backward.

The damage was minimal but the disruption created distance.

Before Hidan regained balance

A dark flame ignited in Uchiha Yi's palm.

He raised his gaze calmly.

"This is Amaterasu."

"Black flames that burn until the target is reduced to nothing."

"You who claim immortality…"

"Let's see how long you endure."

Kakuzu's expression hardened.

Konan remained composed outwardly, but her eyes sharpened.

Amaterasu.

They had witnessed it once inside the Akatsuki hideout when Itachi demonstrated its power.

It was not ordinary fire.

It adhered.

It consumed.

It did not extinguish.

Hidan spat angrily.

"Stop bluffing!"

He charged forward again.

Uchiha Yi's Sharingan spun.

No seals.

No delay.

Just intent

"Amaterasu."

Instantly

Black flames erupted from Hidan's body.

There was no projectile.

No visible trajectory.

It simply appeared where his gaze focused.

"AAAAAHHH!"

Hidan screamed.

The pain was overwhelming.

Amaterasu burned not only flesh but sensation itself.

He rolled across the ground frantically.

But this was not ordinary fire that could be extinguished by friction.

It clung to him.

Spread across his clothing.

Devoured his skin.

Yet

He did not die.

Even as flesh charred

His body continued moving.

Immortal.

But trapped in endless agony.

From a distance, Kakuzu narrowed his eyes.

"If this continues…"

"He won't die…"

"But he won't recover either."

Konan spoke softly.

"Amaterasu burns for seven days and seven nights."

"That is what Itachi once implied."

Even if Hidan could not die

He could be rendered permanently incapacitated.

Immortality did not equal invulnerability.

The black flames continued to devour.

Hidan's screams echoed through the clearing.

Uchiha Yi watched calmly.

Immortality?

Against Amaterasu

It was merely prolonged suffering.

The Uchiha clan's power

Was not something to take lightly.
