Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Peter is About to Become Spider-Man?

Upon hearing this news, the three onlookers all had looks of disappointment on their faces.

And when Toby tossed the keys to the new car to Ben, as expected, he was lectured by the old couple once again.

Only Peter enthusiastically raised his hand to join the chaos, saying he wanted to try out the new car.

Ultimately, because Toby knew exactly how to handle the old couple's psychology—the price of around one hundred thousand was right at the limit of what they could accept—after lecturing Toby, smiles still broke out on their faces.

Mei smiled because her son was filial, so she smiled happily.

As for Ben, his smile was more about the fact that he was about to have a new partner.

After all, no man would dislike having a new car.

What? You're asking what about the old partner Ben said he was reluctant to part with yesterday?

Ben stated that he'd take it to the scrapyard tomorrow; anyway, his old partner had reached retirement age!

In the end, Ben still beat Peter to it and was the first to sit in his new partner.

This was his beloved car; how could he let someone else take its first time?

As for Toby, Toby could only be considered the valet who drove the car back for him, okay? He didn't count as the first driver at all!

Watching Ben touch the steering wheel for a bit, then the door, and then get out to touch the car's rear like some perverted obsessive, Toby, Peter, and Mei all covered their faces, speechless.

Ultimately, because Ben spent so long touching his beloved car and still hadn't had enough, Peter regretfully didn't get to test drive Ben's new car.

After changing clothes with Toby, they drove to the Oscorp Tower.

Although Ben had been reluctant to change cars, Toby actually had his own car—an audi r8.

However, it wasn't bought; it was given to him by Kingpin after a commission.

So Toby told the old couple that his project work was excellent, and his boss had rewarded him with the car.

There was actually nothing wrong with saying that; was a hitman project not a project?

However, after driving the Ford Raptor he bought for Ben, Toby felt a bit off when driving his audi r8 again, feeling a bit cramped.

After all, while the audi r8 wasn't as low-slung as some sports cars, it was still considered compact for a big guy like him who was two meters tall.

So Toby planned to find another time to trade it in for a big vehicle like the Raptor for himself.

Yeah, when the time came, he'd bring Gwen along to give him some advice.

As for this R8, he'd give it to Peter then; anyway, Peter had already gotten his driver's license.

If Peter knew now that Toby was going to give him the R8, he'd probably be dazed.

What? You're saying my transportation is upgrading from a skateboard to an audi r8 in one step?

After the two reached their destination and got out of the car, Peter looked up at the Oscorp Tower, one of New York's iconic buildings, and his gaze suddenly became somewhat complicated.

"What's wrong?" Toby asked upon seeing this.

Peter shook his head, but his eyes clearly showed some disappointment as he said, "It's nothing, just thinking of some things from the past. My parents used to work at Osborn Enterprises, and a very good friend of mine is from the osborn family. But the year my parents had their accident, that friend of mine also happened to go abroad to study..."

Hearing Peter's words, Toby rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

The good friend Peter mentioned was undoubtedly Harry Osborn, but he really hadn't known that Harry went abroad to study at the same time as the death of Peter's parents.

Such a coincidence in timing?

Could there be a connection between these two events?

But before Toby could figure out the potential connection, a smile returned to Peter's face:

"But during my most difficult times, fortunately, I still had you, Uncle Ben, and Aunt Mei. Otherwise, I really don't know how I would have gotten through it!"

Toby fell silent for a moment upon hearing this and patted Peter's shoulder: "We are brothers; I should have been by your side all along, and always will be..."

Looking at Peter, who had experienced such setbacks in life yet could still smile so brightly and maintain a pure and kind heart, Toby suddenly wondered if he had been right not to save his parents back then... but that thought flashed by in an instant.

The past cannot be changed; it was useless for him to think about these things now. All he could do was change the present.

For example... taking out the culprit who murdered Peter's parents, Norman Osborn, on his behalf!

With his current strength as a complete Spider-Man, he could absolutely take out Norman Osborn, or even the entire osborn family, without anyone knowing!

However... Toby looked up at the Oscorp Tower, his eyes flashing.

Perhaps this matter should be left for Peter to solve himself, so as not to leave him with regrets in life.

After all... if nothing unexpected happened, Peter was also about to gain the powers of Spider-Man!

He had agreed to accompany Peter to Osborn Enterprises not just because of Peter's request, but more importantly, he remembered that the radioactive spider that turned Peter into Spider-Man was inside the Oscorp Tower!

That was also a Super Spider modified by Peter's father with his own genes!

Only someone with Peter's father's bloodline could become Spider-Man after being bitten by this Super Spider, rather than being poisoned to death or turning into a genetically mutated spider monster.

However, Peter's father and his own father, Ben Parker, were brothers, so logically speaking, could he also accept the modification from the Super Spider?

Should he give it a try?

Anyway, according to the plot, there was more than one radioactive spider... A bold idea suddenly occurred to Toby.

But for safety's sake, Toby still planned to let Peter try first, while he himself would catch a few radioactive spiders to take back. He would perform experiments first and only proceed once he confirmed there were no issues.

After all, he already had Spider-Man's abilities; if he got bitten again, who knew if genetic collapse or some mutation accident would occur.

He didn't want to turn into a spider monster with eight eyes, six legs, and silk shooting out of its butt... "Hey, Toby, Peter, what are you two still standing at the door for? Come in!"

Gwen's sudden voice interrupted Toby's thoughts and pulled Peter out of his state of sadness and emotion.

The two walked toward Gwen, who was waving at them from inside the building. After swiping the temporary cards Gwen had given them with the guard, the two successfully entered Osborn Enterprises.

At this moment, Gwen was wearing a white researcher's lab coat. It didn't diminish her beauty at all; instead, it made her look even more intellectual and moving.

Even Toby couldn't help but compliment her: "The lab coat suits you well; it's very pretty."

Hearing this, Gwen turned back with a sly smile, intentionally spinning around in front of Toby and winking at him:

"Oh~ so you like this look. If you treat me to another meal, I'll wear this outfit to our next date, how about it?"

Gwen was originally just teasing Toby, but she didn't expect Toby to nod directly:

"Sure, how about next weekend? I'll treat you to dinner."

Hearing this, Gwen's pupils dilated in an instant, and her heart began to pound so violently that Toby's extraordinary hearing could clearly detect it.

Observing all of Gwen's subconscious physical reactions, Toby smiled slightly. It seemed Gwen truly had a physiological attraction to him.

Just two simple dinner invitations had caused her emotions to fluctuate so violently twice.
