I blinked, and the world came into view, a guard staring down at me, scowling.
I put my hand through my hair, trying to remember what the last thing that happened was. The second thing I noticed was the shackles on my hands and feet.
I looked up, realizing that I was sitting on a locked carriage driving somewhere, probably to an execution. I am not only endangering the princess in the eyes of the court, but I have also corrupted her.
All you do is poison everyone around you.
Shut up. I called out into the darkness that infested my mind.
Ignore me all you want, but in the end of the day, you're a jester and she's a princess. It would never work out. Every bone in my body went cold as ice when I was reminded of the very fact that Helena was there when I was knocked out.
I demanded of the guard, "Where is Helena?"
He just stared into the silence.
"If you're going to kill me soon, I should at least know if she's safe."
He still said nothing. I've known the king for many years. He loved his daughter, he fucking cherished her above all. But I knew that when he got pissed off, he wouldn't give punishments according to the crimes committed. Justice was blind, even when it's heard reason.
"At least tell me where you're taking me," I murmured, slightly frustrated that I'm not getting an answer.
He finally answered me with a groan, "To trial, where it would be decided who you will be punished with—execution or banishment."
At that, the rest of the road was continued by silence.
