Chapter 90 - Chapter 90 — The Shadow Offensive

The forest was tense, unnaturally silent. Even the wind seemed hesitant, carrying an eerie chill through Shadowfang territory. Scouts returned with grim reports: dozens of shadow creatures, larger and faster than those previously encountered, were advancing from the northern ridge, spreading a dark, pulsating energy that warped the forest.

Nyra stood atop the central ridge, silver aura flaring, chains of lunar energy coiling around her wrists. Kael stepped beside her, golden Alpha flames flickering along his fur. Fenrir and his Ashfang warriors took positions along the flanks, ready to strike.

"This is it," Nyra said, voice steady but tense. "The shadow forces are testing us. Every wolf, every warrior — follow your training, trust each other, and fight as one."

Kael's eyes blazed gold. "They'll learn why Shadowfang is not prey."

The first wave of shadows erupted from the northern forest. They moved like a tide of darkness, faster than the eye could follow, their crimson eyes glowing and energy rippling with malevolent intent.

Nyra struck first, launching silver lunar chains that bound the initial wave, redirecting them into carefully set traps. Wolves from Shadowfang and Ashfang moved in coordinated strikes, striking with precision and ferocity.

Kael leaped into the thick of the assault, golden flames scorching shadows as he tore through their ranks. "Hold the line!" he roared, voice carrying across the battlefield.

The shadows adapted quickly, their movements intelligent and relentless. They pressed harder, targeting flanks and attempting to reach the ridge's center where the pack's heart — elders, healers, and younglings — was stationed.

Fenrir's Ashfang warriors countered expertly, while Nyra's chains flared brighter. She concentrated, extending her lunar energy across the battlefield. The shadows screamed in frustration, their momentum disrupted by the combination of Blood Moon power and Alpha authority.

Hours passed in a blur of motion and energy. Shadowfang wolves coordinated attacks flawlessly, flanking, striking, and holding the line against creatures that should have overwhelmed them.

But the leader of the shadows appeared at the battlefield's edge — the massive figure Nyra had captured days earlier, now free from temporary restraints, pulsing with raw dark energy. Its crimson eyes locked on Nyra, and the forest trembled as it advanced.

Kael growled, meeting the creature head-on. "Nyra! Together!"

Silver lunar chains shot forward as Nyra channeled her full Blood Moon power. Kael struck with Alpha force simultaneously, their combined energy slamming into the shadow leader. It roared, staggering but not defeated, and the smaller shadows faltered under the combined assault.

Nyra's heart raced, chains glowing brighter than ever. "We will not fall!" she shouted, pushing ancestral energy into the bonds.

The shadow leader staggered, the first sign of weakness flickering in its crimson eyes. The other shadows, sensing their commander's vulnerability, hesitated — giving Shadowfang the opportunity to press the attack.

By the night's end, the shadow forces were repelled, retreating into the northern forests, leaving the battlefield scorched but Shadowfang victorious… for now.

Kael landed beside Nyra, panting but alive. "We held them," he said, voice tinged with relief and determination.

Nyra nodded, silver aura dimming but steady. "Yes… but they will return. Stronger. Smarter. And we must be ready."

The Blood Moon hung full in the sky, casting light over the weary but united pack. Shadowfang had survived its first true assault — but the battle for the forest, and the fight against forces older than any pack, had only just begun.
