Chapter 68: Prelude to the Start of War

Watching Tsunade's serious expression, Yuu could not help but chuckle. "What do you need money for?"

"To gamble, obviously!" Tsunade said as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "You just called me the god of gambling, so I have to go gamble."

"That annoying Grandpa Tobirama not only confiscated all my New Year's money, he even forbade me from gambling. Once I grow up, I will definitely…"

At that moment, a figure appeared behind Tsunade, silent and soundless.

Yuu tried his best to warn her with his eyes, but she was too excited to notice. She kept shouting enthusiastically.

"Definitely what?"

A cold voice came from behind her. Tsunade instantly shuddered.

"G Grandpa Tobirama?"

She turned and stared at Tobirama standing behind her, as if she had seen a ghost.

"Instead of learning something useful, you spend all day thinking about gambling tricks." Tobirama looked at Tsunade with a frosty expression. "You are disgracing Big Brother's face."

"What do you mean?" Tsunade protested stubbornly. "Great Grandpa gambles too."

Hashirama was just like Tsunade, a true gambling addict. Tsunade's gambling "career" had actually started with Hashirama.

But under Tobirama's cold gaze, she suddenly did not dare to say another word.

Tobirama was not like Hashirama.

Hashirama could laugh and mingle with children. Tobirama was not so easygoing, and he never held back when discipline was needed.

"I actually think Lady Tsunade's little hobby is fine," Yuu said softly from the side. "Life is very long. If you only do missions, it gets boring sooner or later. Having some entertainment once in a while is a good thing."

"Right?" Tsunade's eyes lit up and she nodded rapidly.

"She is not just looking for a little entertainment." Tobirama shook his head.

Other people might not understand what kind of personality Tsunade had, but how could he not know?

If she was not restrained, she would become a hopeless gambler sooner or later.

Of course, judging by what happened later, even strict discipline probably would not change much.

"Forget it." Tobirama glanced at Tsunade and shook his head. "Go on. Leave first."

"I still have some matters to handle."

Tsunade looked at Yuu, winked at him, then ran off at top speed.

Soon, only Yuu and Tobirama remained.

"That child has not had many friends since she was young." Tobirama watched Tsunade's retreating back, and his gaze softened slightly. "If you have time, interact with her more."

"If possible, keep an eye on her, so she does not keep breaking prohibitions."

Right now, Tsunade could be described as a problem child.

Of the three shinobi prohibitions, she was breaking two at the same time.

Not only did she gamble, she had already taken a liking to drinking at such a young age.

Looking at it long term, the future did not look encouraging.

"Yes, I will," Yuu replied with a smile. "Lady Tsunade is a very good person."

"I hope you can still say that later." Tobirama shook his head, neither agreeing nor denying.

Then he changed the subject, and a trace of admiration appeared on his face.

"I have already read your proposal from some time ago. It was well written."

"Konoha truly does need a group of professional medical ninja."

"I have thought about it for a while, and you are the most suitable candidate to lead this medical squad."

"What do you think?"

Konoha had not been established for long, and many systems were still incomplete.

For example, the medical ninja system was something that the later Tsunade advocated and perfected.

But right now, Tsunade was still just a child, so naturally it had not developed to that point.

That was why, some time ago, Yuu took the initiative to propose building a complete medical ninja system within Konoha, to better maintain the village's operations.

Tobirama had read the proposal and strongly approved of much of it.

In his view, the plan was already quite thorough. Without enough ability and vision, no one could have written something like that.

To Tobirama, Yuu's vision was rare, even rarer than his talent as a shinobi.

"I am not old enough, and I worry I may not be able to command respect," Yuu said after a moment of thought. "However, if Hokage sama gives me this opportunity, I am willing to try, and I will do my best to handle this matter well."

"It is good that you have this intention." Tobirama nodded. "Among the current medical ninja in the village, you are the strongest."

"I believe you can do it well."

Just like in his previous life, after this reincarnation, Yuu once again displayed outstanding medical ninjutsu, shaping himself into a true genius in the field.

There was no other way. This identity was simply too useful.

No matter where you were, medical ninja were respected. Not only did they often hold high status, they also did not need to go to the battlefield to fight and kill.

It was the same here.

In the current Konoha, the training system for medical ninja had not been officially established, and even institutions like a medical squad did not yet exist.

There were not many medical ninja in the entire village.

Under these circumstances, with Yuu's current level, he already had the reputation of being the number one medical ninja.

After talking with Tobirama for a while longer, Yuu bowed respectfully and left.

Behind him, Tobirama watched Yuu go, then fell into thought.

From the day Yuu was born until now, Tobirama had always kept an eye on this Uchiha genius.

In his eyes, Yuu was extremely special.

Yuu's talent as a shinobi was terrifying. At a young age, the chakra in his body was already vast, and the development level of his Sharingan was also very high, reaching the three tomoe stage when he was only ten.

His overall strength was powerful. Even within the Uchiha, he could be considered an elite.

Yet by Uchiha standards, he was also an obvious outlier.

From birth until now, he had always behaved peacefully and quietly.

Tobirama had once observed him secretly in the Ninja Academy.

He was friendly to everyone. Even at school, he took care of his classmates. He was warmhearted.

Anyone who met him would think he was a gentle, peaceful child.

But while that kind of temperament would be normal elsewhere, inside the Uchiha it felt strangely out of place.

Something about it did not match.

Still, for Tobirama, that was not necessarily bad.

The more approachable Yuu was, the easier it would be for him to integrate into Konoha as a whole.

When he truly grew up and could lead the Uchiha, perhaps he would become the opportunity for the clan to integrate into Konoha, becoming a bridge between the Uchiha and the village.

Just like Tobirama's student Kagami.

"Unfortunately, his age is not quite right."

Thinking of Kagami, Tobirama could not help feeling a trace of regret.

In terms of talent and genius, Yuu's performance far surpassed Kagami's.

If possible, Tobirama would have been willing to take Yuu as a student and train him as a future high level leader of Konoha.

But Yuu was still too young. Taking him in personally would be somewhat inappropriate.

It would be more suitable to leave it to Hiruzen and the others.

With that, Tobirama turned and left.

From that day onward, Konoha's medical department was officially established.

Like the Anbu, it was an institution directly under the Hokage.

Yuu took charge of the entire medical department, becoming its first head.

In that sense, he had risen in a single step, going straight from an ordinary figure to a member of Konoha's leadership.

One had to understand that even the Uchiha clan head currently only held the position of captain of the police force.

Yuu's status as head of the medical department was, to some extent, already on the same level as the head of the police force.

However, the medical department had only just been created and had not drawn much attention yet.

In the short term, Yuu's standing still could not compare with those long established figures.

Yuu did not mind. He was happy to stay out of the spotlight and quietly build his reputation.

Unfortunately, even if he wanted to develop in the background, many people still fixed their eyes on him.

On this day, after an Uchiha clan meeting ended, the clan head summoned Yuu alone.

"Kei."

The clan head looked at Yuu with a complicated expression. "Tobirama let you lead the medical department. What do you think about it?"

"In what sense, Clan Head?" Yuu's face remained calm as he asked.

"His intentions," the clan head said. "And his purpose in placing you in charge of that department."

"Lord Tobirama's intentions may not be that complicated," Yuu replied softly. "It is nothing more than preparing for war."

"War…"

The clan head's pupils constricted.

From the day Hashirama founded Konoha until now, the shinobi world had been peaceful for over a decade.

The major clans had enjoyed peace for over a decade as well, and they had grown complacent.

Could it be that war was truly about to break out again?

"That is not surprising, is it?" Yuu smiled. "In the past, wars were between one clan and another, because the powers of the past were individual clans."

"Now individual clans have been folded into villages."

"But there will still be disputes between village and village. It is no different from the past."

"It is different." A trace of gloom flashed in the clan head's eyes. "If war breaks out between villages, the scale will likely be far greater than before."

In the past, wars were between clans.

Now, it would be between Villages.

If war truly began now, it would inevitably surpass the old era in scale.
