Chapter 7 - THE UNEXPECTED GUEST

Things were all good. No, scratch that, things were going really amazing. Liam and I, after yesterday, felt like we were finally on the same page. That stupid, messy, chaotic page that somehow made sense only to us.

I was in the library, trying to focus on my homework (a losing battle, by the way cause nothing was going in), when I heard a familiar voice.

Kaya?

I paused. My heart skipped. Not in a good way.

I turned slowly, and there she was the blond girl from the cafeteria. Same fake smile, same annoying aura. And of course, she wasn't alone. She had someone with her. Someone who looked like trouble.

Oh, hi, I said, keeping my voice neutral. Not scared. Totally not scared.

Hi,she said sweetly, like she owned the place. Then, eyes flicking to Liam who had just walked in behind me, she added, "And hi Liam.

My chest tightened. Why did my stomach always decide to stage a rebellion when she was around?

Hey, Liam said, calm, but I could see it his jaw tightened ever so slightly.

I just wanted to introduce my cousin, the girl said, smiling like she was auditioning for a role in some drama. He just moved here thought you'd wanna meet new people, Liam.

Liam nodded politely. Nice to meet you.But there was something in his eyes, something that made my chest flutter and my thoughts scramble.

I tried to act casual. Totally casual. Like I wasn't glaring at her in a very obvious, humanly-mistaken-for-jealousy way.

But she noticed. Of course, she noticed.

Well, I'll leave you two to talk, she said and she did walking away, leaving this weird tension hanging in the air.

Liam sighed, running a hand through his hair. I'm sorry about that,"he said softly, voice low. She's… he stopped and continued again she can be complicated.

I stared at him. Complicated?I echoed, because apparently that word doesn't even begin to cover it.

He smiled, that warm, distracting smile. Yeah nothing to worry about. I promise.

I wanted to believe him. I tried. But my heart refused to stop pounding like a drumline at halftime.

Between us… forever? Suddenly felt like it might get a little messier before it got better.

But somehow, I didn't care. Not really. Because chaos, Liam, and maybe a tiny bit of jealousy that was my kind of forever.
