Chapter 2 - Din Dun

I get up from the chair I'm sitting on, pushing it downwards with all my might. I turn around and swiftly observe the room.

Rectangular room. Around four to six meters long and wide, and two to three meters tall. A wooden closet to my left, a door in the front and a wooden bed to my right.

Ingrained into the wall above the bed, is a shuttered window, pouring silver light onto the bed. The silver light clashing with faint orange light, seemingly from a lightbulb above the bed, attached to the ceiling.

I turn back to the desk and I see a mirror.

I look in the mirror and see, but a stranger.

It was as if their images intertwined; both of them were left behind.

Short messy brown hair, with an undertone of black. Narrow and turquoise eyes. Dilated pupils. Thin and small build, like that of a teenager. Black winter pants and topless.

He looks back at the shutter above the bed, taking a step in that direction.

Then suddenly a very loud noise could be heard from below.

"-hh" ??

He rushes towards the shutter and climbs on top of his bed. Looking through the shutter, Smaragd sees gravel, street lamps and a silver moon shining upon it all. The bed cracks and a sequence of sounds from below can be heard.

*thud* *thud* *thud*

Sound of steps turn heavier and clearer as time runs. Smaragd rushes down from the bed to hide under it.

Smaragd wanted to jump through the shutter, but he was too high up.

"Tsk."

The sound of steps disappears for what seems like an eternity.

A door in the room slowly opens. The door creaks with an unpleasant pitch.

The world was not made for the weak and senseless.

I spot two wrinkly hairy feet. The feet turn in my direction. They walk toward my direction.

Then they stop.

A head smashes onto the floor, ear to the ground and a gray eye piercing my own.

"Hobo?" o_o

I look away and crawl forward as fast as I can, but suddenly feel a tight grip on my ankle. I try to move forward, but my body gets pulled into the opposite direction.

And I suddenly fling towards a closet.

*SLAM*

Pieces of plank scatter all over, as I struggle to catch my breath.

I attempt to breathe slowly and heavily, to no avail. Small stars fade into my vision as my sight blurs. I pick up a nearby piece of plank then quickly swing it towards his direction, anticipating a follow up move from the hobo.

But he just stands there. Menacingly.

"Easy kid"

says the old man with a long gray beard and an edgar cut, ragged cloak and tall but thin build.

One liner, cool composure, bullying a small child, staring menacingly? He must be aura farming.

Suddenly the atmosphere around the room began to change. The boy felt this sudden change and was left confused by an indescribable feeling. He felt like the old man had become.. a little cooler?

"Don't worry, your parents sent me"

"What are their names?"

"You don't know the name of your parents?"

"Were you really sent by my parents?"

"... Ava and Ash"

"And mine?"

"Brat."

"..." ???

Why is this bowlie behaving like this? What could I have POSSIBLY done to deserve this, and why in the world would the parents even send this hobo? Hitman? A tutor? Possibly a babysitter?

Noticing the child's confusion, the old man continues:

"You can call me Madin Din Dun, or MDD for short. I'll be teaching you, starting overmorrow. So study up before then. Your school life is soon to come little one."

The old man walks to the door, where he once came from.

"And one note before I head out. Child. Your first lesson will be about Aura."
