"I'm glad you could join us. My secretary said you've been ignoring her calls."
The moment I stepped into the private dining room, the air shifted.
Heavy curtains. Crystal chandelier. My grandfather sat at the head of the long table like a king waiting for tribute.
I smiled as if I hadn't just been summoned like an employee late to a performance review.
"I've been busy," I replied lightly, sliding my jacket off. "Jiho and I are setting up our new offices in the building. Just like you wanted."
The transformation in his expression was immediate. His stern face stretched into something almost boyish with pride.
Of course it did.
He loved control. He loved outcomes that aligned with his vision.
Before he could start lecturing me about expansion strategies, my grandmother stood and walked toward me.
"Let him sit down first, Clarke," she scolded him gently. Then she wrapped her arms around me. "How are you, dear?"
