In the days that followed, Chase Shaw's symptoms didn't improve; they persisted.
Vomiting, sleep disturbances, and low spirits.
Zoe Pierce couldn't even tell who was actually pregnant.
She had no symptoms whatsoever. Her appetite was normal, and so was her daily life.
It was as if all the pregnancy symptoms had converged on Chase Shaw. He was such a tall, imposing man, but on several occasions, Zoe found him looking rather pitiful.
Lying in bed, his tanned skin looked a little pale. He couldn't keep anything down and had lost a noticeable amount of weight.
By then, Zoe was four months along, her belly showing a gentle curve.
His large palm gently caressed her stomach. Chase pressed close, his touch feather-light. "Daddy's right here, baby."
Zoe's hand ran through his hair, just as she had done before. "You've been through a lot, Daddy."
Chase rested his head against Zoe's waist. After a long moment, he asked, "Am I completely useless?"
