After boiling water in the kitchen, the Old Madam came into the room and was greeted by a floor covered in branches. Xiao Hu was bustling about, trying to gather the scattered twigs. But Xiao Niu was even busier; he'd squat down, stand up, and toss the very twigs Xiao Hu had just collected all over the place, shrieking with excitement. Meanwhile, the only adult in the room sat on the edge of the heated brick bed, cracking melon seeds and enjoying the show.
When Xiao Hu saw his grandma, he was so relieved he nearly cried. "Grandma, Auntie and Xiao Niu are being so mean! Xiao Niu is just making a mess, and Auntie won't do anything about him." Feeling wronged, he immediately tattled.
"If your auntie won't deal with him, then you can. Why do you expect her to do everything?" the Old Madam retorted. She tiptoed around the disaster zone in the middle of the floor, walked over to the bed, and sat down right next to her daughter to watch the two troublemakers.
