Her gaze shifted downward, landing on the back of his hand. It was a mangled mess of flesh and blood, with shards of glass embedded in it. The sight was horrifying.
Erin Lowell lowered her gaze. Seeing his blood drip onto the ground, she was instantly snapped out of her lingering terror. "Do you have a grudge against him, too?"
He had been ruthless, as if the man on the ground, beaten beyond recognition, was his mortal enemy.
Zane Jennings hesitated before answering, enunciating each word. "Not before." His tone was heavy, as if he hadn't yet shaken off the viciousness of the fight. "But I do now."
Erin Lowell blurted out, "Is it because of me?"
The moment she said it, she realized she'd spoken too fast. It sounded far too presumptuous. His words had thrown her into a state of turmoil that far surpassed the terror Ken Shaw had caused.
She wanted to take it back, to explain herself, but felt it would be pointless.
