There was no excitement, no cry of surprise. Wan Xian'Er's expression simply froze on her face, her lips parted slightly as her lively eyes became lost in a deep haze of confusion.
Mu Chen tilted his head and gently patted Wan Xian'Er's cheek. "What's wrong?" he asked.
Snapped out of her daze by his touch, Wan Xian'Er's expression was still one of confusion. She pressed her lips together, her voice trembling. "Mu Chen, what did you just say?"
'Just as I thought. She couldn't stay calm after all.'
With a soft sigh, Mu Chen caressed Wan Xian'Er's forehead and brushed a stray lock of hair from her eyes. "I said," he murmured, "I can save Ying'Er."
"Hah..." This time, the confusion finally left Wan Xian'Er's face, replaced by a pained smile. "Mu Chen, I know you don't want me to carry such a heavy burden, but... this is no time for jokes."
"I'm not joking." Mu Chen shook his head, cutting her off. He looked at her with the utmost seriousness. "I can save Ying'Er."
