Kolkata is one of the four major cities in India. She is my city and my love .Job Charnok a British trader had founded this city in 1690. Kolkata was the capital of India till 1911. Now she is the capital of West Bengal.This mega City of about 1,500 sq. Km. has a huge population. Over ten million people live here.The city is the nerve centre of art and culture, trade and commerce of our state. Life pulsates at shopping malls, cinema halls and theatre house. People take pride in the heritage sights like Victoria Memorial Hall, the Indian Museum or the Asiatic Society . But Kolkata is often called a 'city of nightmares '. The city suffers from pollution and congestion. The streets are jammed with cars. Processions block busy roads. Pavements are occupied by hawkers and beggars. Yet Kolkata is a city with a soul. She is full of the joys of life. She is my 'city of joy '.
