Chapter 1 - Prologue

Fumei Tsujin considered himself a normal person.

Well—maybe not normal in the traditional sense, but a person nonetheless.

Tsujin glanced at his watch, a coin spinning idly between his fingers.

He smoothly maneuvered it around his knuckles before slotting it into a vending machine.

'It was worth learning this skill.'

Tsujin nodded to himself and pressed a button.

Clank.

He retrieved the change first, flipping a coin into the air and catching it before slipping it into his pocket.

Then he reached down, pulled out the drink, and inspected the label.

"All Might Soda. Limited Blueberry Vanilla…?"

He snorted. "What kind of flavor even is that?"

Tossing the can into the air and catching it, Tsujin made his way toward U.A.'s front gate.

Well, it was a flavor unique enough to commemorate his graduation.

As a reincarnator who had landed an average life with a slightly below-average Quirk, the ever-realist Tsujin decided early on to aim for a stable job and coast by.

And maybe—purely coincidentally of course—take a vacation before the war happened, then come back once everything was over.

Fumei Tsujin's Quirk was rather exceedingly simple.

Snap Heat.

With a snap of his fingers, he could produce a small flame, about the size of a handheld lighter.

That was it.

Not that he expected much from it in the first place.

It wasn't like he planned on becoming a Hero.

That didn't mean he disliked saving people.

If he had the power, he'd help.

If he didn't, he'd at least try.

But what Tsujin really wanted was a normal job and a peaceful life.

So he applied to U.A.'s Department of Management, solely because its education pipeline fed directly into Hero Agencies.

And he got accepted.

Tsujin didn't see a point in going to college.

He wanted a smooth-sailing life, not a 'I'll barely get enough money to retire at seventy after working my ass off to get a good degree' kind of future.

After all, he was extremely low maintenance.

Give him YouTube, internet access, food, and a bed.

He'd be content until the day he died.

He didn't care what his job was, as long as it paid enough and left him time for his hobbies.

After graduation, he was slated to work as an assistant at the Logistics Department of the Endeavor Agency.

While to some, this was equivalent to working at Lockheed Martin for the money, as said before, Tsujin was realistic.

The Endeavor Agency had an odd but undeniable bias toward fire-based Quirks, even among logistics and management staff.

Other Quirks did get hired, but if recruiters had to choose between two equally qualified candidates, the one with anything heat-related usually won.

Don't hate the player. Hate the game.

Tsujin knew Endeavor remained Number Two until All Might's retirement, and while the title Eternal Number Two probably grated on Endeavor's nerves, it was still Number Two.

That meant money.

And Tsujin liked money.

"Hoooaaahm."

Tsujin yawned into his hand.

'That graduation ceremony was boring as hell.'

Now only the weekend stood between him and employment.

'...Why must jobs exist?'

He opened a pack of candy cigarettes and popped one into his mouth.

Snap!

'This would have so much more aura if I actually smoked', he thought, 'but I'd rather keep my lungs.'

After making sure a wisp of smoke was coming out, he bit the candy cigarette cleanly in half, earning a few strange looks from passersby.

Diploma tucked under his arm, Tsujin headed home toward one of the sketchier, emptier parts of town.

After a major villain attack some time ago, most displaced residents still hadn't returned.

That worked out fine for him.

"Hmm?"

Tsujin slowed when he spotted a busker—guitar in hand, cyan hair catching the light.

'In this part of town?'

He shrugged.

'Well I have some money left over from the Blueberry Vanilla drink this morning anyway.'

Tsujin flipped a coin across his knuckles and tossed it toward the girl.

Ignoring her reaction, he gave a brief wave and continued on his way.

Once she was out of sight, Tsujin paused, letting out a small chuckle as he muttered to himself, as if he had a realization.

"If someone asked me why I became a hero…"

"I'd probably say…"

Tsujin raised his hand.

"Cause it's fun?"

SNAP!
