Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: A Spontaneous Journey

Although she had other plans, Viserion must have felt in his heart that his mother no longer wanted him.

But to obtain these eight thousand-plus Unsullied, and to liberate them from Kraznys's hands, she had to do this.

Arriving amidst the ranks of the Unsullied, Daenerys raised her short whip and commanded loudly in Valyrian: "Unsullied, forward!"

Tramp, tramp, tramp!

"Halt!"

"Unsullied, kill the guards, kill the whip-holders and the Masters, kill those who mistreat you, leaving only the women and children under thirteen."

Hearing Daenerys's orders to the Unsullied, Jorah, the other man, and the Dothraki warriors immediately drew their weapons and charged at the guards.

"You speak Valyrian!" Seeing the chaos around him and busy trying to subdue Viserion, Kraznys only now found the time to hear the orders Daenerys had given.

"I am stormborn, Khal Drogo of the Great Grass Sea... Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, of the ancient House Targaryen, and Valyrian is my mother tongue," Daenerys declared, head held high.

Kraznys realized only then that he had been in Daenerys's trap all along. Just as he was about to speak again, he heard an ancient word escape Daenerys's lips that even he did not understand: "Dracarys!" (Dragonfire)

Viserion, whom he was holding, opened his great maw and spat out a blast of blazing Dragonfire, instantly engulfing him. He screamed and let go of the already melting iron chain, collapsing to the ground and gradually curling into a heap of black charcoal.

Drogon also flew off Daenerys's shoulder, using Dragonfire and sharp claws to hunt down the surrounding guards and Masters.

Inside the clearing, only the Unsullied guards put up a stubborn resistance; the Masters had long since been terrified by the dragon's majesty and were fleeing in all directions.

In less than fifteen minutes, the resistors were completely wiped out. The Dothraki were responsible for cleaning the battlefield and looting valuables. Daenerys walked over to Viserion, whose iron chain was half-melted, unlocked his shackles, and gently comforted him by hugging his neck.

Having enjoyed another bout of playing with fire, Rhaegal also happily approached Daenerys to nuzzle against her. Drogon, unwilling to associate with the little brats, flew into the air to watch the Unsullied ranks.

Over eight thousand Unsullied wore spiked helmets, held shields and spears, and stood ramrod straight. There were a hundred men to a phalanx, with nearly a hundred phalanxes neatly arranged across the clearing, looking majestic and extraordinary.

Daenerys ordered Jorah to lead the Dothraki warriors and the Unsullied to loot Kraznys's estate and liberate the slaves.

She strictly forbade the Dothraki from killing without cause or raping women. Part of the looted wealth was distributed to the slaves, and part was kept to serve as supplies for the Unsullied.

The Unsullied were divided into small squads to patrol Astapor, hunt down the remaining forces of the Masters, and maintain order.

At night, the three of them discussed their next move. Jorah and Barristan were in agreement this time; both wanted the Dragon Mother to first establish a foothold in Pentos and find a way to gather enough large ships to cross the Narrow Sea and participate in the struggle for the iron throne.

But after seeing the tragic plight of the slaves, Daenerys decided to head to Yunkai to liberate the slaves there.

Seeing that they could not persuade Daenerys, Jorah and Barristan had no choice but to drop the matter.

Listening to their discussion, Drogon, being a dragon, felt a bit idle. The situation in Astapor was settled, so he decided to take a long trip to Westeros to have a look.

It was a rare opportunity to come to this world and even become a dragon; it would be a waste of a dragon's life not to travel around.

With his current flying speed, a trip to Westeros shouldn't take too long.

He learned from the conversation between the Dragon Mother and Jorah that Pentos was over 1,500 kilometers northwest of Astapor. Crossing the Narrow Sea from Pentos, Dragonstone was just on the opposite side.

He remembered that Dragonstone had a huge and vivid sand table of the continent of Westeros. With that sand table, he wouldn't easily get lost once he entered Westeros.

That night, Drogon secretly took Jeyne's flint and hay bag, and also took some gold and silver hui coins from the looted wealth of Kraznys, packing them into a sturdy backpack. As dawn broke, he began a spontaneous journey... In the morning, after Daenerys finished washing up and discussed things with Jorah and the others, she hadn't seen Drogon yet, so she sent Jeyne to find him. Sure enough, he wasn't found, and Jeyne's flint and hay bag were also missing. Daenerys knew Drogon had gone off to wander again and stopped worrying about him.

By this time, Drogon was already flying over the Free Trade City-States, and he shouldn't be far from Pentos. During the journey, he had also stopped at a nearby grassland to fill his stomach, leaving a few hui coins for the Dothraki.

Although they didn't have currency and mostly used bartering, they also traded with cities like the Free Trade City-States, so the hui coins could be exchanged for things there.

As he flew, Drogon occasionally landed in cities to gather news. Of course, the landing spots were relatively hidden so as not to be discovered. With his juvenile limit speed, anyone who saw him would just think their eyes were playing tricks on them.

Now was not the time to be exposed to cities outside Slavers Bay. He had caused such a stir in Qarth and Astapor that with The Spider Varys's eyes and ears, he must already know of the existence of the three dragons and that their combat power was impressive.

The reason they hadn't faced a threat from King's Landing, Drogon suspected, might be because Varys had concealed the intelligence regarding the three dragons or blurred the details.

Of course, it was also possible that House Lannister in King's Landing knew about the dragons but was too busy with other matters to care, allowing the Dragon Mother to develop.

Both possibilities existed. Given Varys's tendency to judge the situation, serving only a wise ruler and his noble philosophy of being loyal only to the people, he likely considered the Dragon Mother a candidate for Queen from the moment she had dragons.

This could be seen from the fact that he had long planned to take Tyrion to join the Dragon Mother after Tyrion killed his father and fled.

Even though Varys already knew about the three dragons, it didn't mean the people in Pentos knew.

If he appeared blatantly, it would inevitably attract unnecessary trouble. It would be bad if the Lannisters sent an army to kill the dragons; after all, Rhaegal and Viserion hadn't fully grown yet.

After hiding in a ship's cabin at the docks for a while, Drogon learned of his location: Tyrosh, one of the Free Trade City-States, only about two hundred kilometers from Pentos.

It took him twenty minutes to reach Pentos. He was in no hurry to leave; this was where the Dragon Mother had married Khal Drogo and become the Khal Drogo of the Great Grass Sea.

He planned to taste some delicacies here, fill his stomach, and then cross the Narrow Sea.

The population density of Pentos was similar to that of Qarth. As a port city, the docks were also exceptionally bustling.

It had close trade relations with Westeros and a major land route leading directly to the Dothraki Sea, making its geographical location superior.

The people of Pentos on the streets liked to braid their beards and dye them different colors, which reminded Drogon of a small wildling leader who had a big red beard and seemed to have a similar look.

To find food, he slipped into the tallest and most magnificent courtyard.

Following the scent, he found the kitchen. Besides the ingredients prepared for lunch, the storage room was also extremely rich in food.

There was secret-recipe roast duck, exquisite cakes, pies, honeyed dates, and unknown fruits.

Unable to transform into an adult form, he had to chew and swallow slowly when eating. Drogon could only patiently stuff food into his mouth.
