"Ethan!"
Kaela's shout snapped him back to the fight.
The demon had appeared above her, both hands raised as a massive crimson construct formed overhead.
It resembled an enormous hammer.
Before it could fall, Mark's tendrils wrapped around Elara's waist and dragged her sideways. The hammer crashed into the ground instead, producing an explosion that swallowed the surrounding area in dust.
Kaela emerged from the cloud, blood running down her face.
She grinned.
"That all you've got?"
The demon flicked its fingers, and a crimson beam erupted at point-blank range.
Kaela crossed her arms in front of her chest, bracing for impact.
The blast swallowed her whole.
She was hurled backwards, smashing through a series of stone pillars before finally crashing into a crater.
"Kaela!" Ethan shouted.
"I'm fine!" came the immediate reply.
A second later, she climbed out of the crater, spitting blood and laughing.
"That one actually hurt!"
Ethan shook his head.
