A Brahmin set out on a pilgrimage. On the way, he had to cross a dense forest. After going some distance into the forest, he saw a tiger eating grass. The tiger was sitting on the bank of a lake. The Brahmin was surprised to see the tiger eating grass. A creature that is supposed to always kill and eat animals, is it eating grass? Furthermore, the tiger was holding a golden bangle in its hand. Because the sun's rays were falling on the bangle, it looked very shiny. It was natural for greed to arise in the Brahmin's mind upon seeing a golden bangle in the tiger's hand. But how to go near the tiger? The Brahmin was thinking about this. How to get the bangle? The Brahmin was thinking to himself.
After some time, the tiger said to the Brahmin, "Hey Brahmin! I am here eating grass. You must be surprised to see that. Then you must be even more surprised to see this bangle in my hand. I want to give you this bangle. This thing is with me, but what use is it to me? It will be useful to a human. You accept it from me. You might be scared thinking I am a wild animal. I have killed and eaten many wild animals and humans in my youth. Because of that sin, I lost my dear wife and son. Once I met a sage. The sage forbade me from hunting. Following the great sage's advice, I have become a vegetarian. Every day I bathe in this river and then eat the grass on the river bank. Maybe that is why my teeth and claws are worn out. Even after hearing my words, you still can't believe me. Please trust me. Take this golden bangle from me and give it to your wife."
Still, the Brahmin could not believe the tiger's words. To build trust, the tiger said to the Brahmin, "Hey Brahmin! You have not been able to give up the illusion of life till today. Life is momentary. Still, from humans onwards, life is very valuable to living beings. I can see you are in a dilemma. The golden bangle will surely... some say Brahmins are of a high caste; giving them alms pleases God, because they are with God.
