Chapter 23 - Queen of the Swarm, Part 1

The planet was divided into three continents.Of the three, only one openly resisted life.

Exuvia.

It was not a dead land.It was a land that demanded a price to exist.

The sky remained covered most of the time by dry clouds that never brought rain. The wind swept endlessly across the surface, lifting fine dust that clung to everything and never truly settled. The soil was hard, compact, and poor in nutrients. It was neither cursed nor corrupted; it simply did not favor life.

Water existed, but it was scarce.Plants grew, but slowly.Animals were born… but few survived.

Here, prosperity was a luxury reserved only for those who managed to adapt.

Exuvia offered no opportunities.Only hardships.

Point of View: Wandering Queen

Another day awakening in this place.

My body was still fragile when I became fully aware of my surroundings. I felt the pressure of the ground beneath me, the dryness of the air, and the instability of the energy permeating everything. Every sensation conveyed the same message:

If I remained still, I would die.If I acted poorly, I would die faster.

I did not think in complex terms. There were no grand ambitions or distant dreams.

My objectives were simple.Clear.Survive.

Until recently, I had not been conscious like this. The system called it ascension. I called it standing on the edge of death.

Because of it, I understood more things. And at the same time, I grasped an uncomfortable truth with greater clarity:

The environment was hostile…and I was not alone.

Within me, dormant, lay the seeds of the swarm. Weak individuals, incapable of surviving on their own. They depended entirely on me.

If I fell, they would fall.If they were never born, I would have no future.

The conclusion was obvious.

Adaptation was necessary.

I decided the first to be born would be workers. Their bodies were small and poorly protected, but efficient. They did not need strength. They needed purpose.

The workers began to dig.

The ground resisted, but it was not impenetrable. Every narrow tunnel, every minimal chamber, increased our chances. We were not seeking comfort. We were seeking protection: a more stable temperature, less wind, less exposure to predators.

Some died.

The environment did not forgive mistakes.

I felt no sorrow. I registered the loss of resources and adjusted the behavior of the next group. Survival is not based on compassion, but on learning.

I detected nearby life forms. Small creatures, aggressive out of necessity, not malice. In Exuvia, fleeing implied an unnecessary expenditure of energy.

Attacking was more efficient.

So I did not avoid them.

The workers confronted the predators. They did not win through strength, but through numbers and persistence. The meat obtained was scarce, but sufficient. The Origin Energy contained within those bodies was minimal, but we were not in a position to be demanding.

Day after day, the structure grew.

Tunnels.Chambers.Storage zones.

When it finally reached a stable form, I felt something new.

It was not hunger. It was not urgency.

It was stability.

Then, the system responded.

[City detected][Please confirm name]

That was new.

"Name…"

I observed what we had built. It was not beautiful. It was not large. But it existed. And it endured.

The decision was immediate.

[Congratulations. Genesis Records updated][Name confirmed: Mother Nest]

The change was immediate.

The Mother Nest began to slowly fill with Origin Energy. It was not abundant, but it flowed. For the first time since awakening in Exuvia, the world did not reject our existence.

I felt something I had never felt before.

Hope.

For the first time, I did not merely wish to continue existing.I wanted to grow.I wanted to expand.

The swarm will prosper.
