Chapter 111 - "The Crown Princess of Lumivale"

Chapter 111

Morning sunlight spilled through the towering windows of the royal palace, bathing the room in a warm golden glow.

Outside...

The capital of Lumivale had already awakened.

Church bells echoed across the city.

The streets overflowed with merchants, nobles, knights, and commoners, all dressed in their finest attire.

Colorful banners bearing Lumivale's silver crest fluttered proudly in the gentle breeze.

Today was no ordinary day.

It was a day that would be recorded in the kingdom's history.

---

Inside the Crown Princess's chamber...

Several royal attendants quietly made their final preparations.

"Your Highness..."

"The ceremony will begin within the hour."

Princess Flora stood before a full-length mirror.

At fourteen years of age...

the little girl who had once wandered curiously through palace corridors had grown into a graceful young lady.

Her long orange hair cascaded down her back like flowing sunlight.

Her emerald-green eyes remained gentle...

yet there was a quiet determination hidden within them.

She wore only a simple white underdress as the attendants prepared the ceremonial robes.

One maid carefully lifted her hair.

Another adjusted the silk around her shoulders.

As Flora turned slightly—

Her gaze caught something in the mirror.

There...

upon the lower part of her back...

rested the familiar blue flower-shaped birthmark.

For a brief instant—

Her heart skipped.

"..."

A memory surfaced.

Ancient pages.

A worn Heaven Book.

The final illustration.

An incomplete blue flower...

its remaining half lost to time.

Flora unconsciously touched the mark through the fabric.

"...That symbol..."

"I've seen it before..."

The image flashed through her mind once more before fading away like mist.

She remained silent.

Then...

she gave a small shake of her head.

"...I'm probably overthinking it."

The attendants gently draped the royal gown over her shoulders.

Layers of white and silver silk flowed elegantly to the floor.

Golden embroidery shimmered beneath the morning light.

A sapphire brooch bearing Lumivale's royal crest was fastened over her chest.

Finally...

Soft white gloves completed the attire.

The attendants stepped back.

For a long moment...

No one spoke.

One maid quietly covered her mouth.

"...Your Highness..."

"...You look beautiful."

Another smiled warmly.

"You truly resemble Her Majesty."

Flora offered an embarrassed smile.

"...Thank you."

A knock sounded at the chamber door.

"May I come in?"

Flora immediately recognized the voice.

"...Mother."

The doors opened.

Queen Anastasia entered gracefully.

For just a heartbeat...

She simply stood there.

Looking at her daughter.

Then...

A smile unlike any other slowly spread across her face.

"My..."

"...how beautiful you've become."

Flora lowered her eyes shyly.

"I fear everyone keeps saying that simply because today is a special occasion."

Anastasia chuckled softly.

"No."

"I say it because it's true."

She walked closer until she stood before Flora.

Gently...

She adjusted a loose strand of orange hair near her daughter's cheek.

"There."

"Perfect."

Flora looked at herself once more in the mirror.

Today...

she would be introduced to the kingdom not merely as a princess...

but as its future.

The thought made her chest tighten.

Anastasia noticed immediately.

"...Flora?"

Flora remained quiet.

After a long pause...

she spoke in a voice barely above a whisper.

"...Mother..."

"What if..."

"...I'm not good enough?"

The Queen's expression softened.

Flora lowered her head.

"Everyone will be looking at me today."

"They'll place their hopes in me."

"They'll expect me to become the next ruler of Lumivale."

She clasped her hands tightly.

"...What if one day..."

"...I disappoint them?"

The room fell silent.

Anastasia gently placed both hands upon her daughter's shoulders.

"Look at me."

Flora slowly raised her eyes.

The Queen smiled with quiet warmth.

"My precious child..."

"No one is born ready to wear a crown."

"Not your father."

"Not I."

"And certainly not you."

She brushed another strand of hair behind Flora's ear.

"A crown does not ask for perfection."

"It asks for courage."

"Courage to keep learning."

"Courage to admit mistakes."

"And courage to continue walking..."

"...even when the road ahead is uncertain."

Flora listened quietly.

"You worry because you care."

"And that alone tells me..."

"...you are already walking the path of a true ruler."

A faint smile finally appeared on Flora's lips.

"...Thank you, Mother."

Before Anastasia could answer—

Another knock echoed through the chamber.

The doors opened once more.

A young woman dressed in a pristine royal military uniform stepped inside.

She stood tall.

Confident.

Graceful.

Her dark blue hair was neatly tied behind her, and the insignia on her uniform marked her recent promotion within Lumivale's military.

She immediately bowed.

"Your Majesty."

"Princess Flora."

Queen Anastasia's eyes brightened.

"...Guinevere."

For a moment...

she simply looked at the nineteen-year-old knight.

Then she smiled proudly.

"It feels as though only yesterday you were a little girl chasing Flora through these halls."

"And now..."

"...look at you."

"You've grown into a remarkable young woman."

Guinevere smiled faintly.

"I could say the same about Her Highness."

She turned toward Flora.

Her expression softened.

"Congratulations, Princess."

"No..."

She corrected herself with a small smile.

"Congratulations..."

"...to Lumivale's future Queen."

Flora laughed nervously.

"Please don't make me more anxious than I already am."

The three women shared a quiet laugh.

Outside...

The palace bells began ringing once again.

The ceremony...

was about to begin.

The bells of the Royal Cathedral echoed across the capital.

One after another.

Their solemn chimes rolled through every street of Lumivale.

People stopped whatever they were doing.

Merchants stepped out from their shops.

Children climbed onto their parents' shoulders.

Knights stood proudly along the royal avenue.

Today...

History would be written.

---

The Grand Hall of Lumivale had never looked more magnificent.

Towering marble pillars stretched toward a ceiling painted with the legends of ancient heroes.

Silver banners bearing the royal crest hung proudly between enormous stained-glass windows.

Hundreds of nobles filled the hall.

Generals.

Ministers.

Governors.

Scholars.

Foreign envoys from neighboring kingdoms.

Representatives from Stonehaven.

Medoria.

Ironhold.

Arven.

Even delegates from the distant Holy Valdrian Empire had come to witness the occasion.

Every seat was occupied.

Not a single voice disturbed the silence.

Then—

The great doors slowly opened.

Boom...

Boom...

The sound echoed through the vast chamber.

A royal announcer stepped forward.

His voice rang clearly throughout the hall.

"His Majesty..."

"King Victor of Lumivale!"

Every noble immediately rose to their feet.

King Victor entered first.

Dressed in brilliant white royal robes adorned with silver embroidery, he walked with calm dignity toward the throne.

At his side...

Queen Anastasia.

Elegant as ever.

Her graceful presence alone seemed enough to quiet the entire hall.

Once they reached their places...

The announcer spoke again.

"Her Royal Highness..."

"Princess Flora of Lumivale!"

Every eye turned toward the entrance.

Flora stepped inside.

For just a heartbeat...

The entire hall seemed to fall still.

Her white ceremonial gown shimmered beneath the morning light.

Silver threads embroidered graceful flowers across the flowing fabric.

Her long orange hair rested gently over her shoulders.

Emerald eyes reflected both nervousness...

and determination.

She walked with steady steps.

Neither too fast...

Nor too slow.

Each step echoed softly across the marble floor.

When she reached the center of the hall...

She knelt gracefully before the King and Queen.

"Father."

"Mother."

King Victor looked down at his daughter.

For a brief moment...

He did not see the future ruler of Lumivale.

He saw the little girl who had once chased butterflies through the palace gardens.

A faint smile crossed his face.

"You may rise."

Flora stood.

She turned to face the hundreds gathered before her.

The hall remained silent.

King Victor slowly stepped forward.

His voice carried effortlessly across the chamber.

"People of Lumivale."

"For centuries..."

"Our kingdom has endured."

"We have survived wars."

"We have survived monsters."

"We have survived the Curse itself."

He looked across the sea of faces before him.

"But no kingdom survives..."

"...without hope."

His gaze rested upon Flora.

"For years..."

"Princess has devoted herself to preparing for the future."

"Ready placed the lives of others before her own."

"I have watched her grow."

"not into a perfect young woman..."

"...but into one who never ceases striving to become better."

He paused.

His next words carried through every corner of the hall.

"Therefore..."

"Before the people of Lumivale..."

"Before our honored allies..."

"And before the world..."

"I hereby proclaim Princess Flora..."

"...the Crown Princess of Lumivale."

A deep breath swept through the chamber.

King Victor raised his hand.

"And from this day forward..."

"She shall stand as the sole heir to the Throne."

"The future sovereign of this kingdom."

"The first Queen Regnant in Lumivale's history."

For one heartbeat...

Silence.

Then—

Thunderous applause erupted throughout the hall.

The nobles bowed.

Knights struck their fists against their breastplates.

Citizens outside the palace erupted into joyous cheers as the announcement spread through the capital.

"Long live Princess Flora!"

"Long live the future Queen!"

Flowers rained from the balconies above.

Musicians began to play.

The bells rang louder than ever before.

Yet...

Not every face carried joy.

Near the back of the hall...

Two elderly nobles exchanged uneasy glances.

"A Queen..."

One whispered.

"Can she truly lead us?"

Another answered quietly,

"His Majesty's judgment has never failed."

"...But history has never walked this path before."

Similar whispers spread among a handful of nobles.

Not loud enough to challenge the King.

But enough to reveal their uncertainty.

Flora heard none of it.

She simply stood there...

Looking across the countless faces before her.

Some smiled proudly.

Some wept with happiness.

Some looked uncertain.

In that moment...

The weight of the crown she would one day inherit settled silently upon her shoulders.

She lowered her head respectfully toward her people.

"I..."

Her voice trembled for only an instant.

Then steadied.

"I may still have much to learn."

"But I promise..."

"I shall devote my life to protecting this kingdom."

"To protecting its people."

"And to becoming a Queen worthy of the faith you have placed in me."

The hall answered with another wave of applause.

Hidden among the crowd...

The Second Prince watched in silence.

His smile was polite.

His eyes...

Were not.

Beneath the sleeve of his royal robe...

His hand slowly clenched into a fist.

His niece had become the future of Lumivale.

And with that single proclamation...

His own path to the throne had vanished forever.

His gaze darkened.

But before anyone could notice...

He simply smiled once more.

As though he had accepted the King's decision.

No one realized...

That somewhere within the crowded hall...

Another pair of eyes had been watching him all along.

The celebration lasted until sunset.

Music echoed throughout the palace.

Nobles laughed over fine wine.

Foreign envoys exchanged gifts with Lumivale's ministers.

Today...

The kingdom celebrated its future.

Yet not every heart shared in that joy.

---

As the guests gradually departed, the palace corridors became quieter.

The Second Prince walked alone through a marble passage overlooking the royal gardens.

His expression remained composed.

But beneath his sleeves...

His fists were tightly clenched.

"...The first Queen in Lumivale's history..."

He let out a quiet, bitter laugh.

"...Brother... you've truly lost your senses."

A voice suddenly answered from behind him.

"Have you?"

The prince stopped instantly.

His hand instinctively moved toward the sword at his waist.

Standing several steps away was a young man dressed in an elegant black cloak.

His short black hair swayed gently in the evening breeze.

Beneath it...

A pair of brilliant blue eyes seemed almost unnatural, glowing faintly beneath the palace lanterns.

He appeared no older than twenty-five.

His posture was relaxed.

His expression carried a calm smile.

Yet somehow...

The Second Prince felt uneasy.

"...Who are you?"

The stranger placed one hand over his chest and bowed politely.

"My name is Silas."

"I serve the Holy Valdrian Empire."

The prince's eyes narrowed.

"The Western Empire..."

Silas smiled.

"I accompanied our diplomatic delegation to today's ceremony."

His gaze wandered toward the brightly lit throne hall.

"I must say..."

"It was a magnificent celebration."

"The people truly adore Princess Flora."

The prince remained silent.

Silas slowly looked back at him.

"But..."

"...not everyone celebrated."

The corridor fell quiet.

Silas took another slow step forward.

"I listened carefully during the Royal Council several years ago."

"The proposal you made..."

"...was not unreasonable."

The prince's expression changed.

"...You know about that?"

"The Empire hears many things."

Silas answered almost casually.

"And unlike others..."

"We understand the burden carried by those born into royal families."

For a long moment...

Neither spoke.

Then Silas quietly said,

"You wished to secure Lumivale's future."

"But today..."

"That future slipped beyond your reach."

The Second Prince looked away.

"...Fate chose otherwise."

Silas chuckled softly.

"...Fate?"

"I've never believed fate is so absolute."

He stepped closer.

Close enough that only the prince could hear him.

"If there is something standing between a man..."

"...and the future he believes is rightfully his..."

"...then perhaps..."

"...that obstacle can simply disappear."

The prince's eyes widened slightly.

"...Those words border on treason."

Silas' smile never faded.

"History often calls the victors heroes..."

"...and the defeated traitors."

He turned toward the palace doors.

"The Holy Valdrian Empire has watched Lumivale for many years."

"It would be unfortunate..."

"...if such a powerful kingdom were led by weakness."

Silence.

Then Silas looked back over his shoulder.

His glowing blue eyes reflected the fading light of dusk.

"If you ever decide..."

"...that history deserves another path..."

"...send word."

"I shall be waiting."

Without another word...

He disappeared into the crowd of departing nobles.

The Second Prince stood alone beneath the marble archway.

His breathing remained calm.

Yet his heart was anything but.

He slowly turned toward the palace balcony.

Far above...

Princess Flora stood beside her parents, smiling as she greeted the people of Lumivale.

The cheers of the kingdom echoed through the evening sky.

"...History..."

The prince whispered quietly.

"...Perhaps it can be changed."

---

Knock. Knock.

Flora's eyes slowly opened.

The gentle rocking of the ship replaced the echoes of the past.

For a moment...

She simply stared at the wooden ceiling of her cabin.

"..."

A voice came from outside.

"Princess?"

"You haven't eaten anything since this morning."

"We've prepared supper."

Flora closed her eyes again.

"...I'm not hungry."

A brief silence followed.

"But Your Highness—"

"Please..."

Her voice was soft.

"But don't disturb me again."

"I wish to be alone."

"...As you command."

The footsteps gradually faded away.

The cabin fell silent once more.

Moonlight spilled through the small window.

Flora quietly looked toward the endless sea.

The memories of her childhood...

Her parents.

Her coronation.

The hopes placed upon her.

All felt as vivid as if they had happened only yesterday.

She gently rested a hand over her heart.

Then whispered to herself—

"...I won't let any of you down."

Outside...

The waves carried the ship ever closer...

To the destiny that had awaited her since the day she was born.
