Chapter 1 - chapter 1 Come get me

Jay Jay's POV

I didn't plan on calling him.

That's what I told myself while standing in Drew's living room, surrounded by noise that felt too loud, laughter that didn't reach me. Everyone seemed comfortable—except me.

My phone felt heavy in my hand as I stepped outside. The night air wrapped around me, cool and quiet, like it understood. I stared at the screen for a second too long before tapping his name.

"Jay?"

His voice came through instantly—steady, familiar.

"Are you busy?" I asked, trying to sound casual.

A pause.

"Where are you?"

"Drew's house."

Another pause. Softer this time.

"You want me to come get you?"

I swallowed. "If that's okay."

"I'm on my way."

Keifer's POV

The moment Jay called, I knew she wasn't okay. She never calls unless it's important.

By the time she said Drew's name, I already had my keys in hand. When I saw her under the streetlight, my chest loosened. She looked fine—but I know her better than that.

I opened the door for her.

"You okay?"

She nodded. I let it go. I didn't need answers tonight.

The car smelled like her—faint perfume, warm familiarity. Music played softly. Our hands rested close—too close to be coincidence. I didn't pull away.

She caught me looking.

"What?"

"Nothing."

A lie. Because the truth was: I'd come get her anywhere. Anytime.

Jay Jay's POV

My house appeared too quickly.

Keifer slowed the car, pulling up in front of the gate. I hesitated before stepping out.

"Thanks for coming," I said.

He looked at me. Really looked.

"Always."

I started toward the door. He called softly:

"Hey… come with me tomorrow."

I paused. "Where?"

A small, mysterious smile curved his lips. "Just… trust me."

"Okay," I whispered.

"I'll pick you up," he said, and finally I went inside.

Tomorrow.

And somehow, that felt like hope.
