Caged Bird

There was a bird, one with a beginning like most others.

It didn't explore the vast world it was born into. Or maybe… it simply hadn't yet. There was no need. At least, that's what its mother told it.

"The danger of the world is everywhere but here. So stay."

And it stayed.

But the bird grew curious. It would peek over the edge of the nest, time and time again, wondering what lay beyond. What was this danger? How could it avoid it? Should it avoid it?

What if I faced it instead?

These questions flooded its small mind, and only answers could soothe the fire they sparked.

Still, the mother warned. And the bird obeyed.

But the questions kept growing—no longer with excitement, but with desperation. Curiosity curdled into restlessness, and restlessness into something close to madness.

Until finally, It left.

It abandoned the nest. It left behind its family, its comfort, its safety. But it did not look back. There was no regret in its flight. Only purpose.

To the bird, the only direction was forward.

It soared through the skies, learning more with every flap of its wings. For every answer it found, ten more questions took root. But that was okay. The world was endless, and filled with wonders still undiscovered.

Until it wasn't.

The questions stopped. The answers were all known. The world had been mapped, its secrets unearthed.

Now the world was the nest.
