Chapter 22 - Pichu

"First, let's test basic attack power."

Kael took out a tablet and activated the training ground's intelligent system. Three alloy targets rose from the ground, their dark silver surfaces flowing with energy patterns—Vibranium test pillars capable of withstanding Quasi-Elite attacks.

Corviknight flapped its wings lightly.

Four pale-green air blades tore through the air.

The overhead detectors blared alarms—the Air Slashes split mid-flight into sixteen crescent blades, instantly shredding the targets into metal fragments.

"Three hundred percent increase in single-target output?" Kael's pupils contracted. "And the attack caused air distortion… Has it grasped Vacuum Cut characteristics?"

Next came the defense test.

Several tons of Starfall Iron dropped from above. Corviknight glowed with mirror-like silver light.

At half a meter from impact, Steel energy condensed into a thorned crown. The falling metal disintegrated into dust from the rebound force.

Then came the speed test.

Activating Hurricane Field, Corviknight became a silver meteor, leaving seven afterimages in the simulated jungle.

"Now for combination skills."

Kael tapped the tablet, and stormy rain and lightning filled the arena.

"GAAA!!!"

Corviknight soared upward, steel wings wrapped in spiraling airflow. A Cannon Beam, empowered by the storm, transformed into a light-dragon vortex—evaporating rain into ionized mist.

The protective barrier rippled violently.

"WARNING! ENERGY OVERLOAD!"

"WARNING! ENERGY OVERLOAD!"

"Corviknight, that's enough!" Kael shouted.

If the barrier broke, he'd be bankrupt.

"Ga…"

Corviknight stopped immediately and flew overhead, stirring a powerful gust.

Kael was about to continue testing—

—but meanwhile, at Chunfeng High School…

On the sports field, Lyra was playing badminton with her best friend Nori.

"Lyra, you're so lucky," Nori said. "Kael even gave you a Pichu."

"Didn't your dad say he'd buy you a Pokémon too?" Lyra smiled. "Which one are you choosing?"

"I'm still thinking about it…"

Just then, an excited voice rang out.

"Lyra~~"

They turned to see a clean-cut teenage boy holding a trophy and a bouquet.

"W-what are you doing?!" Lyra yelped, backing away—then immediately turned and ran.

The boy chased after her, and the two began circling the track.

Nori stood there, completely baffled.

"What in the world is happening?"

After running for a while, Lyra shouted angrily, her face flushed.

"Bruce! If you keep chasing me, I won't be polite anymore!"

"I just want to—" Bruce tried to explain.

"I don't want to hear it!" Lyra cut him off. "Don't show up in front of me again!"

She turned to leave—but he followed.

CRACK!

Thunder roared as a bolt of lightning slammed into the ground right at Bruce's feet, scorching the earth.

He froze in terror.

On Lyra's shoulder sat a tiny yellow Pokémon with rosy cheeks and black-tipped ears and tail.

It was Pichu.

"Hmph. Follow me again, and next time it won't hit the ground," Lyra said coldly, then left.

The surrounding students erupted into whispers.

"In Chunfeng High School, who doesn't know how much Kael dotes on Lyra?"

Once, a rich kid had threatened her into dating him.

Kael had nearly made him disappear.

From that day on, no one dared cross that line again.

Because in this world, family was Kael's reverse scale.

Touch it—and you die.
