Chapter 30 - Elijah

The rescue plan for Elena had begun. Everyone went in their cars. Jeremy drove Elena's car. I gave them the exact location.

They could have gotten there faster by running, but Damon and Stefan would have been left behind, and I wanted everyone fighting together.

I stayed in containment, watching everything unfold. Of course, I followed them. They just didn't know it.

I wrote a note and set it on fire.

Elena had been lying on the bed in captivity for three days. She was dirty because she hadn't been able to shower, and she was deep in extreme fear.

"Ouch—" she curled up when an intense burning pain spread across her arm. After the pain passed, she looked down.

"Keep them distracted… Reinforcements are coming… Signed, Nik."

"Why did you have to make me feel pain?" Elena muttered in her mind. "But thank you."

She looked back at them.

"Who are you? Your name is Trevor, isn't it?" she asked again. The fear had already faded. "What do you want with me?"

"Why don't you shut up?" Trevor growled, almost lunging at her to hit her.

"Stop, Trevor," Rose intervened, holding him back. "You know we can't hurt her."

"You can't hurt me? Do you work for someone?" Elena argued, raising her hands slightly. "Take the handcuffs off. I wouldn't be able to escape anyway."

"Shut her up," Trevor growled again. He was obviously uncomfortable with the situation.

"Rose… this won't work. We're going to die," Trevor said in panic, growing more irritated. "He's going to kill us."

"Who is he?" Elena asked, curious.

"Your worst nightmare," Rose replied.

The sound of a car echoed outside the hideout.

"He's here. We're going to die," Trevor panicked.

"Calm down," Rose said, hugging him briefly. "It's going to be fine… I'll handle this."

Perfect. Drama is psychological tension too. It's not just about punching — it's about provoking the predator until he makes a mistake.

Let's go.

The door was kicked open.

Damon walked in as if he were invincible.

Trevor proved otherwise in less than a second.

He crossed the space and struck Damon with a blow that threw him against the wall. The concrete cracked from the impact.

"Damon!" Stefan rushed forward.

Rose intercepted him before he made three steps. She grabbed his arm, twisted it, threw him to the ground, and kicked him away.

"Do you really think age is just a number?" she said with contained contempt.

Stefan tried to get up.

Trevor grabbed Damon by the neck and lifted him.

"You invaded something you don't understand."

Damon tried to smile, even while being suffocated.

"You talk too much for someone who kidnaps teenagers."

Trevor tightened his grip.

Elena screamed to distract them, but the two older vampires were completely in control.

Then the side door opened.

No explosion.

No rush.

Anna entered first, expression bored.

Behind her, Pearl, elegant posture, attentive eyes.

Trevor slowly released Damon.

"You two are very far from home," he muttered, recognizing them. "I thought you had died, along with Katherine."

Anna tilted her head.

"We're here to get our husband's sister," she said playfully as she walked toward them. "You know it's not nice to kidnap my sister-in-law."

Silence.

Rose frowned.

"What?"

Pearl completed, almost amused.

"Family is complicated. Especially when you kidnap someone who doesn't belong to you."

Trevor growled.

Anna crossed her arms.

"You know that sounds worse when you growl, right?" she teased. "You should learn how to be a man from my husband. Maybe then girls would like you."

Rose stepped forward.

"You have no idea what's going on here."

Pearl smiled faintly.

Trevor attacked first.

Anna barely managed to block. The strength difference was brutal. He threw her against a column.

Rose lunged at Pearl and pressed her against the wall with superior ease.

"A hundred years make a difference," Rose murmured near her ear. "Pearl, you're smarter than this."

"They do. But they don't define everything," Pearl replied through clenched teeth.

Trevor grabbed Anna by the throat.

"You're too young to interfere."

Anna looked directly into his eyes.

"You're still pathetic," she said calmly. "You're only a hundred years older than me."

He punched her.

The sound echoed.

But it wasn't flesh.

It was metal.

Trevor stepped back half a step, confused.

Anna raised her arm.

The skin looked different. Darker. Shining with metallic density.

Damon, still on the ground, widened his eyes.

"You saw that, right?"

Stefan stood frozen, staring.

"That's not possible."

"What did you do?" Trevor muttered, watching his newly broken fist heal. "What the hell is that?"

Anna smiled.

"I evolved."

She advanced, her arm now partially reinforced, and struck Trevor with force amplified by the density of steel. He was thrown backward.

Rose turned to look.

Mistake.

The air around Pearl began to vibrate.

The temperature rose.

There were no visible flames.

But the heat was palpable.

"You brought a witch?" Rose snapped. "Still a coward, just like your friend Katherine."

"No, it's just me," Pearl said, raising her hand and pointing at Rose. "And Katherine is not my friend. She screwed me over the same way she screwed you."

The ground beneath Rose's feet heated abruptly. A wave of compressed heat exploded against her torso, launching her against the opposite wall.

The warehouse fell silent for half a second.

"Vampires don't do that," Damon muttered.

Trevor rose slowly, looking between Anna and Pearl.

There was something new there.

Not just surprise.

Caution.

"This is impossible. Vampires can't use magic," Rose wiped blood from the corner of her mouth. "What kind of trick is this?"

"Well, someone taught us," Anna shrugged, reinforcing her forearm again. "That we're not just prey and strength and speed."

Pearl rotated her hand and the air around her rippled with concentrated heat.

Trevor charged again, fury renewed. He was still stronger. He managed to strike Anna in the abdomen before she fully reinforced. She was thrown against the wall.

Rose crossed through the heat and punched Pearl in the face, knocking her to the ground.

The physical difference still existed.

But now there was a variable.

And everyone was in shock.

Damon stood up slowly.

"Okay… is someone going to explain why vampires are playing sorcerers?"

Stefan stared at Anna.

"Who taught you?"

Anna and Pearl exchanged a look.

Trevor growled.

"This isn't natural."

"Nothing about us is natural," Pearl replied firmly.

Rose prepared to attack again.

Trevor did the same.

The air grew heavy.

Not because of heat.

Not because of metal.

Because of presence.

Everyone felt it at the same time.

A silence that did not come from fear.

It came from hierarchy.

Footsteps echoed from outside.

Slow.

Controlled.

Ancient.

Rose froze.

Trevor went pale.

Anna and Pearl stood still.

The main door — destroyed minutes earlier — shifted slightly.

And then he entered.

Elijah Mikaelson crossed the threshold with impeccable posture, suit untouched, expression far too serene for the chaos present.

"Who are you?" Damon asked, confused, now healed and standing.

Elijah ignored him completely and looked at Anna and Pearl.

"I have heard legends that some vampires can use magic… It seems they were not just legends," Elijah said in a calm, interested tone. "Very interesting."

"Elijah…" Rose murmured.

Pearl looked at her strangely.

"Are you afraid?" Pearl asked in a low, dangerous tone. She didn't know the man… but if Rose was afraid, then the situation was serious.

Elijah Mikaelson walked in unhurried, stepping around pieces of concrete as if he were walking through a perfectly arranged hall.

His gaze swept over the destroyed warehouse.

Cracks in the floor.

Twisted metal.

Heat marks on the walls.

He stopped.

His eyes landed first on Anna. Then on Pearl.

Something different appeared there.

Genuine interest.

"Curious," he said softly. "I left my home to answer an urgent call… and I find this."

He made a subtle gesture with his hand, indicating the chaos around him.

"You prepared a rather… dramatic setting."

Trevor swallowed hard.

Rose kept her posture, but tension lined her shoulders.

"Elijah," Trevor began, "we asked for an audience."

"You asked for forgiveness," Elijah corrected, still watching Anna as her metallic arm slowly returned to normal skin.

He took another step toward them.

"And yet, I find something far more interesting than remorse."

Pearl kept her chin lifted.

"We're not here for you."

Elijah tilted his head slightly.

"No?"

He stepped closer. The air seemed to organize itself around him.

"Voluntary structural transmutation," he said, looking at Anna. "Directed thermal manipulation," he added, turning to Pearl. "Ancient legends suggested that vampirism possessed… unexplored layers."

Damon murmured to Stefan, "He's analyzing them like a science experiment."

Stefan didn't respond. He was too busy feeling that something here was fundamentally different.

Elijah spoke again, polite as ever.

"It would be a waste not to explore such potential. I would appreciate a more… private conversation with both of you."

Anna let out a small laugh.

"We appreciate the interest."

Pearl completed with a polished smile.

"But we're married."

A second of silence.

Damon blinked.

Trevor looked confused.

Elijah simply raised one eyebrow, almost amused.

"Married," he repeated, weighing the information like a curious statistic.

Anna crossed her arms.

"Happily married."

Pearl nodded.

"And loyal."

A microsecond of approval crossed Elijah's expression.

"Loyalty is a rare virtue," he said. "Especially in our world."

He then finally turned to Trevor and Rose.

And the air changed.

Interest gave way to something colder.

"Six hundred years," Elijah began calmly. "Six hundred years since you trusted a girl named Katherine."

The name fell heavily.

"Six hundred years since she escaped under your watch."

Trevor closed his eyes for a moment.

Rose held his gaze, but tension was there.

"We came to offer something in return," Rose said. "An opportunity."

Elijah took a step toward them.

Not fast.

Not threatening.

But definitive.

"You failed," he continued. "And instead of accepting the consequences, you chose to improvise."

His gaze slid to Elena.

"With her."

Elena felt the weight of that look, but she didn't understand the context. She didn't know who Katherine truly was beyond a problematic vampire. She didn't know what six hundred years meant to creatures like these.

Trevor took a deep breath.

"We brought something that can compensate for the mistake."

Elijah tilted his head slightly.

"You called me here to negotiate… after kidnapping a human girl… creating conflict… destroying half a warehouse…"

He looked at the cracked ceiling.

"And you expected me to arrive pleased?"

Rose stepped forward.

"Elijah, we're not against you."

"No," he agreed. "You are beneath me."

Silence.

Anna exchanged a quick glance with Pearl.

Damon muttered, "I officially don't like this guy."

Elijah ignored him entirely.

He looked back at Anna and Pearl for a moment too long.

"The potential you demonstrated today… is rare. Few even know it is possible."

"And we intend to keep it that way," Anna replied coldly.

"We are not interested in alliances," Pearl added.

Elijah accepted that with a slight nod.

"A pity."

He returned his attention to Trevor and Rose.

"You asked for my presence to offer something in exchange for forgiveness."

The word forgiveness carried faint irony.

"Then speak."

Trevor inhaled deeply.

Rose discreetly squeezed his hand.

The entire warehouse seemed to hold its breath.

And for the first time since he entered…

Elijah stopped analyzing.

And began to listen.

Trevor swallowed.

"We brought something that changes the game."

Elijah did not react. He simply observed.

Rose stepped forward, voice steady despite her heart.

"It's not just any human."

Elena felt her arm pulled forward suddenly.

Rose brought her into view.

"This is why we called you."

Elijah turned his head.

And then he saw her.

Not like prey.

Like an improbable phenomenon.

He stepped closer.

The silence thickened.

His eyes moved slowly over Elena's face. The visible pulse in her throat. The uneven breathing. The real warmth beneath her skin.

"She is… human," he said quietly.

It was calculation. Reassessment.

Damon frowned.

Stefan noticed the shift first.

Elijah stepped closer.

"Extraordinary."

Trevor exhaled nervously.

"We kept her intact. We didn't harm her."

Elijah finally looked away from Elena and at Trevor.

"You kidnapped her."

Trevor held his gaze.

"To compensate for Katherine."

The name hung heavy.

"Six hundred years," Elijah said calmly. "Six hundred years since you failed me."

He moved.

No one saw the beginning.

When they realized, his hand was already through Trevor's chest.

Clean.

Precise.

The sound was wet and final.

Elena gasped.

Rose froze.

Damon stepped forward, but Stefan held him back.

Elijah looked at Trevor like a completed equation.

"Forgiveness does not erase incompetence."

He slowly withdrew his hand.

The heart pulsed once before he crushed it.

Trevor fell.

Absolute silence.

Rose did not cry. Vampires do not cry like humans. But something in her broke.

Elijah cleaned his hand with his handkerchief.

Then he looked at Rose.

"You live," he said calmly. "Because you showed me something worth more than your failure."

Rose closed her eyes briefly. She accepted it.

Elijah turned to Elena.

"Come."

It was not an invitation.

He grabbed her arm. Firm, not brutal.

Elena tried to pull back.

"I'm not going with you."

He tilted his head slightly.

"That is not your decision."

The air shifted.

Anna stepped in front of him.

She blocked his path.

Pearl appeared beside her, chin raised.

"Let her go," Anna said.

Elijah sighed. Not angry. Just disappointed.

"I would truly prefer not to do this."

Pearl stepped forward.

The air around her warmed slightly.

"Then don't."

Elijah watched them. Genuine fascination remained.

"What you demonstrated today… is rare. I would hate to waste such evolutionary progress."

Anna let metal surface on her fingers briefly as a warning.

The ground beneath Pearl's feet cracked from heat.

Damon muttered, "They're challenging him. That's insane."

Stefan didn't disagree.

"Step aside," Elijah said calmly.

"She's not going with you," Pearl replied firmly.

"And why?" Elijah asked.

Anna answered without hesitation.

"Because she is our husband's sister."

Silence.

Damon blinked twice.

Stefan slowly turned toward Elena.

Elena looked at Anna.

"I… what?"

"Family is family," Pearl said steadily.

Elijah studied them. There was no lie. Only conviction.

A subtle trace of admiration crossed his face.

"Vampires who develop new abilities… and still choose human loyalty."

He tilted his head.

"Admirable."

His grip on Elena tightened slightly.

"But irrelevant."

The heat around Pearl intensified.

The metal on Anna's fingers expanded.

Elijah closed his eyes briefly.

"Do not force me to kill something so interesting."

The warehouse stood on the edge of rupture.

Trevor lay dead.

Rose stood motionless.

Elena was at the center.

And for the first time…

Even Anna and Pearl felt the true weight of what it meant to stand against something that was not merely older.

It was structural.

The next fraction of a second would decide whether this would become dialogue…

or massacre.
