Chapter 3 - c

The college courtyard was alive with chaos. Students rushed between classes, laughter echoing through the halls, and the sun caught on Keifer's mischievous grin as he spotted Jay leaning against a pillar.

"Hey, Jay," he called, winking. "Nice hair today… though I think it could use a little mess."

Jay raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Oh really? And who are you to critique my hair? The guy whose socks never match?"

Keifer laughed, stepping closer. "Hey, that's called fashion freedom. You wouldn't understand."

Jay's lips curled into a sly smile. "Oh, I understand perfectly. That's why I plan to make you regret teasing me today."

Keifer's friends, lounging nearby, noticed the exchange and nudged each other. "Oh, this is going to be good," one whispered.

Keifer puffed his chest out, trying to look intimidating. "Careful, Jay. You might not like what's coming."

Jay simply shrugged, eyes sparkling. "Bring it on."

The first 'attack' came as Jay flicked a small clump of chalk dust she'd picked up from the ground. It landed squarely on Keifer's shoulder.

"Hey!" he exclaimed, spinning around, only to see Jay laughing, hair bouncing in the sunlight.

"I told you… regret," she teased.

Keifer wiped the chalk off, grinning despite himself. "Fine. You want a war? You got it."

He lunged playfully, trying to grab her, but she ducked and ran, weaving through students who couldn't help but watch the chaos.

"Catch me if you can!" Jay called over her shoulder, laughter trailing like a melody.

Keifer chased her, dodging bikes, backpacks, and the occasional student, completely forgetting his friends who were now cheering him on—or maybe just waiting for him to get embarrassed.

"Stop!" he shouted, laughing breathlessly. "I—wait, no, don't stop—"

Jay skidded to a halt, spinning around. "Confused much? Too bad, you're mine today!"

With a sudden burst of energy, she tapped his shoulder and sprinted off again, leaving Keifer stumbling forward and almost colliding with his own friends.

"Wow… she's unstoppable," one of them muttered, still laughing.

Keifer shook his head, grinning. "Not for long." He caught up to her, grabbing her hands mid-run. "Truce?"

Jay smirked, leaning against him. "Truce… only if we team up now."

Keifer blinked, intrigued. "Team up?"

Jay nodded, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Yes. Let's see how they like it when the tables turn."

The moment they joined forces, the chaos skyrocketed. Keifer grabbed a water bottle from a passing student, gently spraying it toward a group chatting nearby.

Jay, meanwhile, snuck behind another pair, yanking lightly on a backpack strap, causing papers to fly everywhere.

"Jay!" one girl exclaimed, trying to catch her notebooks.

"Sorry, not sorry!" Jay laughed, twirling around.

Keifer ducked under a table, emerging behind a group of guys playing cards. "And now…" he whispered to Jay, "Operation Chaos begins."

They darted around the courtyard, side by side, laughter trailing them like fireworks. Students shrieked, shouted, and tried to dodge, but nothing could stop the dynamic duo.

At one point, Keifer slipped on a stray puddle, and Jay caught him just in time. She smirked, shaking her head. "Careful, silly. Can't have you embarrassed in front of your friends."

Keifer laughed, brushing off the mud. "Oh, I don't mind being embarrassed… as long as it's with you."

Jay's cheeks warmed, but she rolled her eyes dramatically. "You're such a sap."

He grinned, grabbing her wrist and tugging her into a playful spin. "Better a sap than a boring best friend."

Together, they continued their playful rampage—splashing water, tossing paper, and dodging the occasional reprimand from teachers. Every laugh, every brush of fingers, every stolen glance carried an electric undercurrent neither fully acknowledged.

Eventually, they paused, leaning against a wall, catching their breath. Both were flushed, hair messy, clothes slightly damp.

"You know," Jay said, smirking, "I think we might be the most chaotic duo this campus has ever seen."

Keifer laughed, tilting his head. "And still… somehow, the best team."

Jay nudged him playfully. "Best friends, huh?"

"Best friends," he agreed—but there was a lingering smile, a quiet promise in his eyes that said it was more than that.

And for once, in the middle of college chaos, with students laughing and shouting around them, they didn't have to hide it.

They were unstoppable. Together.
