I stared at the tiny blue flame dancing above my palm. For several seconds, I didn't dare breathe.
It was beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
The flame moved with every small movement of my fingers, bending when I bent them and rising when I lifted my hand.
I had spent so long being afraid of what was happening to me that seeing it respond so easily almost made me forget to be afraid.
"Don't look at it as something separate from you," Agnes said quietly. I glanced at her.
"Then what should I look at it as?"
"An extension of you." I looked back at the flame.
"It doesn't feel like an extension."
"What does it feel like?" I hesitated.
"Like something is alive inside me." Agnes smiled faintly.
"That's because something is." My heart thudded.
"What?"
"Your magic." I swallowed. The flame flickered and it made me shiver again. Agnes must have noticed.
"You're frightened again."
"I don't know how not to be."
