Chapter 35 - The Manual Reset

The victory in the Mint lasted exactly sixty seconds.

Just as the last of the physical gold dissolved into violet data, a sound tore through the sky of Oros—not the sound of thunder, but the sound of a System Delete. The golden clouds over the Capital were suddenly bisected by a vertical line of white, clinical light. It looked like a scalpel cutting through a canvas.

[SYSTEM ALERT!] [Detection: Grand Audit Protocol.] [Initiating: 'Manual Reset' of Regional Sector #402.] [Warning: The Heavens have deemed Oros 'Economically Non-Viable'.]

"What is that?" Elara cried out, shielding her eyes as the white line began to widen, erasing the tops of the city's spires as it descended. Where the light touched, the buildings didn't crumble—they simply ceased to exist, replaced by a flat, grey grid of unrendered reality.

"The Bank is clearing the board," Kaelen said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl. "They'd rather destroy the entire Kingdom than let a debtor own the ledger."

The Angels of Audit

From the widening white rift, four figures descended. They were not the winged beauties of myth. They were tall, spindly entities composed of interlocking golden wheels and thousands of blinking eyes. Each one carried a Calamity-Pen—a spear that rewrote the laws of physics wherever it pointed.

[TARGET: Seraphim Auditor (Rank: System Administrator)] [THREAT LEVEL: WORLD-ENDING] [MISSION: Delete all 'Sovereign Grace' and its Source.]

"Redeemer! Front and center!" Kaelen roared.

The Corrupted Redeemer stepped forward, his bone-white armor screaming as the "Manual Reset" light began to peel away his physical form. He raised his executioner's blade, but the first Auditor simply pointed a finger.

[ACTION: DELETE SECTOR 14-B (The Redeemer's Left Arm)]

With a glitching sound, the Redeemer's arm—and the massive blade it held—simply vanished. No blood, no debris. Just an empty space where his limb had been.

"They're not fighting us," Seraphina realized, her face white with terror as she watched the grey grid creep closer. "They're editing us out of the story!"

The Ultimate Hedge

Kaelen looked at the terrified students, the Golden Guard, and the vanishing city. He looked at his ring, which was gorged on the stolen gold of the Mint. He had trillions in debt and billions in stolen assets, but neither mattered if the "Server" was shut down.

If I can't beat the Auditors, Kaelen thought, his mind racing at the speed of a supercomputer, I'll make it too expensive for them to delete me.

"Everyone! Link hands!" Kaelen commanded. "If you hold 'Sovereign Grace', connect your mana to mine! Now!"

"Kaelen, what are you doing?" Elara screamed.

"I'm performing a Leveraged Buyout of the Reality!"

[SKILL ACTIVATED: The Infinite Mortgage (Lv. 1)] [Action: Link the souls of every 'Sovereign Grace' holder to the physical foundations of the City.] [Effect: You are now using the lives of 100,000 people as 'Human Collateral'.]

As the violet light of Kaelen's currency surged through the crowd, a massive, shimmering web of data-lines exploded from the Mint. It latched onto the buildings, the streets, and the souls of the citizens, weaving them all into a single, complex financial instrument.

The leading Auditor raised his Calamity-Pen to delete Kaelen, but he froze. His thousands of eyes blinked in synchronized confusion.

[AUDITOR INTERFACE: ERROR] [Target: Subject 001 is currently 'Cross-Collateralized' with 94% of the Sector's population.] [Calculation: Deleting Subject 001 will result in a 94% Asset Loss for the Great Bank.] [Result: DELETION IS NOT COST-EFFECTIVE.]

The Auditor lowered his spear. The "Manual Reset" light stopped descending.

"What's happening?" Silas, the Master of the Mint, stammered. "Why did they stop?"

"They stopped because I just made myself Too Big to Fail," Kaelen panted, the strain of holding 100,000 souls in his hand making his nose bleed violet ichor. "If they delete me, they lose their entire investment in this Kingdom. The Bank hates me... but they love their profit margins more."

The Hostile Standoff

The four Auditors hovered in the air, their golden wheels spinning with a frustrated, mechanical sound. They couldn't move forward, and they couldn't retreat. Kaelen had turned the entire city into a hostage situation where the "Hostages" were the Bank's own potential earnings.

One Auditor descended, its voice echoing like a thousand distorted radio stations.

"Subject 001. You have created a 'Debt-Trap' for the Heavens. This is a violation of the Primal Contract."

"The Primal Contract was written by you," Kaelen spat, wiping the violet blood from his lip. "I'm just playing by the fine print. You want your city back? You want your gold back? Then you're going to have to Negotiate."

The Auditor's eyes flickered. "Terms?"

Kaelen leaned on his cane, a shark-like grin spreading across his face.

"I want a seat on the Board of Directors. And I want the High Priestess Valerica delivered to me for... 'Debt Collection'."

In the distance, atop the High Cathedral, Valerica's scream of betrayal echoed through the silent, frozen city. She had been the Bank's most loyal servant, but Kaelen had just made her the "Bad Asset" that needed to be liquidated to balance the books.
