A Voice from Nowhere
The night pressed heavily against the small, worn‑down room Ryan called home. Wind clawed at the loose window frames, making them rattle as if the whole house were shivering. Ryan lay on his creaking wooden bed, eyes fixed on the cracked ceiling, his thoughts louder than the storm outside.
Tomorrow was the Day of Revelation.
Tomorrow, every sixteen‑year‑old in Astra City would stand before the Mirror of Fate and see the path their life was destined to follow.
Everyone… except him.
He would stand before the mirror and see nothing. Just like every other time.
He exhaled slowly and shut his eyes, hoping sleep might silence the anxiety twisting in his chest.
Then—
TNNNNG…
A sharp metallic chime stabbed through his skull. Ryan's eyes flew open.
A glowing blue window hovered in the air above him, its light casting warped shadows across the room's peeling walls.
[System Installed]
[FateBreaker System – Version 0.01]
His heart lurched. He reached out instinctively, but his fingers slipped right through the floating screen.
"What… what is this? Am I dreaming?"
Another line blinked into existence.
[Hello, Ryan. You are the only one without a fate. You are the exception.]
He stumbled backward until his shoulders hit the wall.
"What do you want from me?"
[I want what you want… freedom.]
Before he could form a reply, a second window materialized beside the first.
[Starter Mission: Break Your First Fate]
[Target: Liana – Fate: Betrayal]
[Time Limit: 24 hours]
Ryan's breath hitched.
Liana… his only friend.
"Why her?"
[Because her fate leads to your death.]
A chill spread through his veins.
[Begin the game… or die according to the fate you do not have.]
Ryan stared at the glowing text, his pulse pounding in his ears.
He had no fate.
And somehow, that made everything far more dangerous.
