The goblin attacked with the tendrils, all rushing at him through the air, reaching astonishingly high speeds. Kai watched the attack coming, he couldn't dodge fast enough so he raised his sword to block.
BAM!
The collision ripped through his body, Kai was thrown back, slamming into the ground and rolling to a stop. He looked up quickly, the tendrils were coming again, so he rolled fast as it penetrated into the ground, leaving large cracks inside the ground.
He pushed himself off the ground to his feet, gripping his sword and ready to go again.
"Tch, this thing just became extremely strong." He said.
This was the mutation of the monster showing itself, it allowed the goblin to gain a unique feature and power that it normally wouldn't have.
While he was looking at the goblin general, the small fries came rushing his way again. Kai clicked his tongue, evidently pissed at that. He lunged forward, blade in hand, flowing like the wind as he cut through them like butter, then he charged at the general.
The goblin general spun around, it looked at Kai and then used its tendrils to attack, they surged through the air. Kai leaped over one, he slammed into the ground and rolled, pressing his foot down and dashing ahead again. Another tendril came from the side, he ducked under and bolted with even more speed.
Seeing that Kai was dodging its attacks, the goblin was filled with rage. It looked at Kai and let out a thundering roar, then swung the massive trunk at Kai.
Kai saw the attack coming, he knew that if he dodged, his momentum would be forcefully changed and he wouldn't be able to attack properly. So he decided to cut through the trunk.
He wasn't sure how that would turn out, but he knew that the sword in his hands was fast enough to cut through, so as long as he executed it properly, then he would be able to.
With that in mind, he turned his blade, locked eyes on the trunk, and when it was close, he planted one foot into the ground, gritted his teeth so hard that it scraped off parts of itself.
"Arghhhhhhhhhhhh!"
He slashed down with all his might, the blade hit the trunk, sounding like a gun had gone off in that moment.
BANG!
He refused to stop there, he gritted his teeth and pressed down into the trunk.
"Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" He roared as he slashed, the blade started cutting through, and after getting through the first layer, it slashed right through.
Kai couldn't believe it as his blade cut through, his eyes were wide, filled with shock. He still gripped the blade tight as if still cutting through the trunk, not able to get over the shock fully yet.
He looked up at the goblin, it was also stunned by the trunk that was cut. It looked at what remained in its arm, and in rage, it hurled it at Kai.
Kai gripped his sword even tighter and slashed forward, his blade cut right through the trunk, allowing him to rush through the center. He ran as fast as he could, rushing at the goblin.
RAWRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
The goblin immediately began attacking with the tendrils, each one slamming into the ground. Kai was forced to dodge as best as he could, evading the tendrils as quickly as they came.
"You might be extremely powerful, but I can recognize your patterns with ease, you have nothing special to offer." Kai said, grinning as he moved, he made it close to the goblin.
Immediately, the goblin reached for him with its right hand, but Kai attacked the arm, slashing upwards, his blade cut through the arm, blood shot into the air. The goblin let out a roar that thundered through the air.
The tendrils on its back swung at Kai extremely fast, all Kai saw was a blur and he rushed to block it. The tendrils slammed into his sword and he was immediately thrown back. He slammed his back against a pillar, and it cracked, but rather than fall to the ground, he landed on his feet and then shot forward again.
"Butterfly Dance!" He roared as his movements immediately changed, he was faster and far more unpredictable. His blade cut through the air extremely fast as he stabbed right through the heart of the goblin.
The goblin was stunned, seeing the blade penetrate through its heart. It looked down at Kai with shock, while Kai had a smile on his face.
Kai had been doing something all this time, and that was wearing it down. The life bar of the goblin had been on a steady decline the more Kai injured it, and when it was finally close to twenty percent, Kai knew that a common game mechanic would kick in, the one that allowed most battles to be won.
At a lower life, a monster's ability to fight would reduce as well. The monster in question would have no idea of that and would end up getting hit where it wasn't getting hit before.
Kai watched as the life drained and hit zero, he pulled the sword out of the heart and the body of the general fell to the ground right before him, landing with a very heavy thud that shook the entire platform.
Kai stood there, unfazed, with a smile on his face. The body vanished soon after and what was left wasn't a small red crystal, but rather one the size of a fist as well as a small parchment.
Kai picked both up and tossed them away, turning his attention back to the remaining small fries that were there, and with a smile on his face, he rushed at them, cutting them down one after the other, until he had finally cleared them all.
He stopped, breathing heavily, but the smile on his face remained. "Ahhh, that was really hectic." He said.
"It went well, you fought really well." Mira said. She stood up from where she had been sitting and walked toward him.
"Thank you for the buff, Mira." Kai thanked her and patted her head. He was about to say something else when the entire platform started trembling.
Very quickly, he rushed to see what was happening, and as he stood at the edge and looked down, both him and everyone in the chat were stunned.
