Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: The Village That Chose Not to Kneel

The village of Rellin had never mattered.

It sat between two trade roads that merchants rarely used, surrounded by farmland that had long since stopped producing enough grain to interest the capital.

No guards stationed there.

No priests visiting regularly.

No divine monuments.

Just dirt roads, cracked wells, and people who had learned not to expect help.

For years, survival meant bending.

Paying taxes.

Giving crops to passing patrols.

Pretending the sky cared.

The man who had accepted the system message stood alone in the village square.

His name was Darven.

Once a soldier.

Then a farmer.

Now something else.

He stared at the glowing interface hovering in front of him.

❝Autonomous Territory Node Established❞

❝Linked Authority Source: Sector 9❞

❝Node Status: Fragile❞

Darven rubbed his beard slowly.

"…What did I just do?"

Back in Sector 9, the system pulsed again.

Kael stood inside the main hall where the territory messages usually appeared.

The new node remained visible.

A faint light on the map far beyond the capital.

Seventy-three kilometers.

Close enough to matter.

Far enough to be vulnerable.

Mirel crossed her arms.

"So we have a second territory."

"Yes."

"And it's run by a farmer."

Kael nodded.

"That's a problem."

The system flickered again.

❝Secondary Node Status: Unstable❞

❝Population Under Territory Influence: 17❞

❝Threat Level: Rising❞

Noa leaned over Kael's shoulder.

"…That's small."

"Very," Kael replied.

Small territories die quickly.

Especially when gods notice them.

High above the capital, the divine observers watched the second node form.

The glowing map now showed two points of influence.

Sector 9.

And the village.

One of the observing entities spoke.

"The infection has spread."

The word hung in the air.

The radiant god did not correct it.

But he did not agree either.

"It has replicated," he said calmly.

Another divine presence turned toward him.

"Then eliminate the new node."

The radiant god shook his head slowly.

"No."

Silence followed.

"Why?"

He gestured toward the projection.

"Because the second node is weak."

Back in Rellin village, Darven tried to explain the situation.

Which was difficult.

Because it sounded insane.

"You're telling us the ground is ours now?" one farmer asked.

Darven scratched his head.

"…Sort of."

"And the sky can't tell us what to do?"

"…That part is still under debate."

The villagers stared at him.

Then someone laughed.

Not kindly.

"Darven, you've lost your mind."

The system pulsed again.

❝Collective Acceptance: 21%❞

❝Node Stability: Low❞

Darven sighed.

"…This is harder than it looked."

Back in Sector 9, Kael watched the numbers carefully.

"Acceptance is too low," he said.

"Seventeen people isn't a territory," Mirel added.

"It's a rumor."

Kael nodded.

"And rumors die fast."

Noa looked thoughtful.

"…Can we help them?"

Kael looked at the map again.

"They're outside our boundary."

"Far outside."

The forgotten god inside him spoke quietly.

"But they are still linked."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Explain."

The system flickered faintly.

❝Territory Network Trait: Shared Influence (Passive)❞

❝Primary Territory Support Possible❞

Kael smiled faintly.

"So the network works both ways."

Mirel frowned.

"What does that mean?"

"It means Sector 9 can reinforce them."

Back in the village, Darven stared at the system message.

❝Primary Territory Support Available❞

❝Accept External Authority Reinforcement?❞

He hesitated.

"What does that even mean?"

Then he sighed.

"…Fine."

"Yes."

In Sector 9, the boundary pulsed.

The system flared.

❝Territory Authority Transfer Initiated❞

❝Destination: Rellin Village Node❞

Kael felt it instantly.

A thread pulling outward.

The territory was reaching beyond the city.

Not expanding.

Connecting.

Seventy-three kilometers away, the ground beneath Rellin village shifted faintly.

Not violently.

But undeniably.

The old well that had been dry for months filled slowly with water.

A collapsed barn beam straightened.

The soil darkened.

The villagers stared.

"…What did you do?" one whispered.

Darven blinked.

"I think… I asked for help."

The system pulsed again.

❝Node Stability: 21% → 47%❞

❝Population Under Influence: 17 → 24❞

Seven villagers stepped closer.

Not because they believed in gods.

Because the well had water again.

And water is convincing.

High above the world, the divine observers reacted immediately.

"The secondary node stabilized."

"Yes."

One voice sharpened.

"It received external reinforcement."

The radiant god nodded calmly.

"The network is functional."

Silence fell.

That was dangerous.

Another divine entity stepped forward.

"This violates containment doctrine."

"Yes."

"Then destroy the node."

The radiant god shook his head again.

"No."

The others stared at him.

"Why?"

He pointed at the projection.

The village was growing slowly.

The people gathering around the well.

The faint pulse of shared authority.

"If we destroy it now…"

He paused.

"…the idea spreads faster."

Back in Rellin village, the change was immediate.

Not miraculous.

But noticeable.

Fields that had struggled began to show green shoots again.

The villagers gathered around Darven.

"…Is this real?"

Darven shrugged helplessly.

"I think so."

"…What do we do now?"

Darven looked at the system message.

Then at the horizon.

Then back at the villagers.

"We stop kneeling."

The system pulsed.

❝Population Under Influence: 31❞

❝Node Stability: 63%❞

The village had crossed a threshold.

Not strong.

But real.

Back in Sector 9, Kael watched the numbers rise.

"They're stabilizing."

Mirel nodded slowly.

"That was faster than I expected."

Noa smiled.

"…They felt us."

Kael looked at the glowing map.

Two lights now.

One city.

One village.

"Soon," he said quietly,

"there will be more."

High above, the radiant god watched the second territory grow.

His expression remained calm.

But his thoughts had shifted.

Because a territory that spreads by conquest can be stopped.

A territory that spreads by choice—

Is something else entirely.

"…Interesting," he murmured.

Below, in a forgotten village that had chosen not to kneel—

The second spark of rebellion had begun.

And the sky was starting to realize

This war would not stay contained.

A/N:

It started with one district.

Now it's spreading.
