Chapter 18 - SURVIVAL 5: STEEL CASTLE part 3

Second estimates that they have been together and living in this castle for five days. Still, nothing bad was happening, but they should not be complacent. It was difficult to know the time because there are nine wall analog clocks here, but their times were different. Unlike the usual analog clock with 12 hours or numbers on it, some clocks here take up to 15-25 hours or numbers. The design of the clocks was unusual. It was circular in shape and looked like the nine planets in the solar system. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto.

They also observed that the food was automatically stockpiled without knowing how or why. When waking up in the morning, there was another stock of products, so they don't run out. Raw food doesn't spoil. It only spoils when it is cooked. Fruits and vegetables also do not rot until they are eaten or taken a bite of them.

The trash can where they throw away the leftover food seems to be bottomless because it doesn't fill up.

Spoons, forks, and other utensils, as well as pots, were greaseproof because only water was needed to wash them, leaving no residual grease that shines in cleanliness.

As for electricity not being present, some appliances are supposed to use electricity, but they work. They still don't know the answer to this mystery. Their laundry isn't dirty and doesn't stink once you've worn it, even for three days. If you wash it, you don't need soap, only water. She just hung it in her room. Even if the sun doesn't reach the room, it dries quickly. Every time they take a bath, they don't use soap, just water, but they feel refreshed. There's no drainage in the comfort rooms and lavatories. It seems to absorb water on its own, so it does not flood. There was also no dust anywhere inside the castle.

They just flick the air or snap their fingers, and the lights will turn on or off automatically, making the switch an option to use. The door in every bedroom opens automatically when the owner of that room holds the knob. It's like it scans the whole print of someone's hand and only responds to the room owner. Their blankets and bed sheets were like magic that automatically changed in temperature. If they feel cold, it heats up automatically. If they feel hot, it will automatically cool down.

These were the things they observed in five days. It was very comfortable to live here because almost everything they needed was already here.

Second was now in her bedroom and writing in her journal notebook. This was the notebook and ballpen she took from the art room. Here, she writes what happens each day, which serves as her diary. She writes all the things going on inside the castle, their activities, how many days they've been here, and who she was. This might be helpful for future references.

It's afternoon. Others fell asleep after eating. She left her bedroom wearing her extra uniform.

She went up to the 4th floor. This floor accommodates the hobbies that they have. She often hangs out in the art room to paint or sketch whenever she has spare time. Upon approaching the art room, she heard a sound... a sound of someone playing the piano. It comes from the music room, so it's audible from where she's standing right now, because you should pass the music room and gym before the art room. At the very end was the library.

She stopped walking and stood briefly in front of the door that was slightly open. She hid on its side and secretly listened to the soft melody. She did not have much idea when it comes to music, but she can feel the emotions of the one who plays. She wants to know who he/she was, but she might just interrupt. After a few minutes, she smiled because the mysterious musician behind the door had finished playing. She was about to pass the music room art room when she heard a voice.

"Second," he called to her. She was surprised. "I know you're there. Why don't you accompany me?" Hearing his deep yet gentle voice, she already knew who he was.

She pushed open the door and saw the lone boy sitting in the middle of the vast music room. His hands rest on a shiny black grand piano. This thing must be expensive enough that she would rather not touch it because she has no money for its repair in case she does something horrible. She was just left standing still near the door.

"C'mere," he called her and smiled.

She didn't want to disturb him, but here they were. He even invited her to come in. Actually, she got curious, and she wants to see how he plays. She entered and closed the door as she approached him.

"What are you doing?" She asked even though she's aware that he was the one playing the piano a while ago. She just doesn't know how to start the conversation.

"Playing piano... perhaps," he replied, slightly amused, and so did she.

"You're good at it." He really does, and he deserves such appreciation.

"I waited for everyone to sleep before going here. But someone discovered it," he chuckled.

So, she did interrupt him. Maybe he doesn't want anyone to know that he knows how to play the piano.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to eavesdrop." She felt bad because of that.

"You're really funny." He tapped his seat. "Sit with me," he initiated, moving back to the left of the piano stool to give her space.

"Oh, I'll just sit here." She made hand gestures that she refused to and was about to take an extra chair when he extended his right hand.

"It's okay, I like the way like this."

As he insisted, she sat down next to him, and they were very close.

He gazed at her. "What song do you like?"

His question made her think. "Well, I can't remember… yet."

"You're right." He nodded gently in agreement. "Then I think, this classical music would work." He then pressed a key, which she didn't know what to call that specific key, on the piano, and played.

This is Second's first time sitting close to a grand piano. It's more beautiful up close. She didn't know much about music, especially classical music, so she listened attentively to what he was playing. She can hear every melody that First makes. She admires how he remembers every note he plays. She asked him how he could do that, but he didn't know either. She guesses it's his muscle memory doing the work, or he's simply good at playing the piano. He must be a pro in his previous life on Earth. The music he wanted to play seemed to flow naturally through his fingers.

She closed her eyes as she could feel every note that he pressed. It creates a harmony that even non-musicians can relate to. How she wishes she could listen to more of this.

A few minutes passed, and she applauded him. "Wow, what a show."

He gave her a shy smile. "Pleasure. Want me to teach you?"

She felt embarrassed. "Ah, no-"

"Whaaa!"

They were both startled by the scream they heard.
