Chapter 13 - chapter 13

The café was quiet, soft music playing in the background.

Jay sat at a corner table, her fingers wrapped around her cup like she was holding onto something real.

She didn't know why she had asked Keifer to meet her here.

Maybe because she wanted to see him again.

Maybe because her heart was too heavy to carry alone.

When Keifer entered, Jay felt her chest tighten.

He looked the same… but different.

He looked distant.

Like he had built a wall around himself.

He walked over and sat across from her without saying a word.

Jay's heart raced.

She stared at him, and her voice came out softer than she expected.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked.

Keifer looked up, his eyes calm but cold.

"Doing what?" he replied.

Jay swallowed.

"You're distancing yourself from me," she said. "You keep acting like you don't care."

Keifer's jaw tightened.

"I care," he said quietly.

Jay's eyes widened.

"Then why?" she demanded.

Keifer looked away.

He didn't want to say it.

But he had to.

"I don't want to get attached," he admitted. "Because I don't want to lose you again."

Jay's heart squeezed.

"You think I'm the type to leave?" she asked, voice shaking.

Keifer's expression didn't change

Jay felt her eyes burn.

Keifer's eyes met hers.

Jay took a deep breath.

"I'm not leaving ," she said, voice firm. "I don't do that."

Keifer's expression softened slightly.

"I want to believe you," he said. "But I can't."

Jay's voice trembled.

"Why can't you?" she asked.

Keifer's gaze dropped.

"Because every time I start showing I care… everyone leaves," he said quietly.

"And I don't want to be alone again."

Jay's chest tightened.

She looked down at her hands.

She wanted to tell him the truth.

She wanted to tell him how she felt.

She wanted to confess everything.

She almost did.

Her heart was ready to speak.

But then… she remembered.

The ring on her finger.

The life she was trapped in.

The truth she couldn't escape.

Jay looked up at Keifer, her eyes filled with pain.

"Keifer…" she began.

Her voice broke.

"I'm not the type to leave," she said again. "I promise you."

Keifer stared at her.

He looked like he wanted to believe her.

But he didn't.

Jay swallowed hard, her heart beating faster.

"I need to tell you something," she said.

Keifer leaned forward, eyes sharp.

"What is it?" he asked.

Jay took a deep breath, her voice shaking.

"I'm married," she whispered.

Keifer froze.

The café seemed to grow colder.

Jay's heart pounded in her chest.

She watched him closely.

Waiting for him to react.

But he didn't.

He just stared at her, his face unreadable.

Jay's eyes filled with tears.

She tried to continue.

"I'm married to Jax," she said, voice breaking. "He— he was caught with someone else. And I… I don't know what to do."

Keifer's expression didn't change.

He didn't say a word.

He simply stood up.

Jay's heart dropped.

"Keifer…" she whispered, desperate.

But he didn't look back.

He walked out of the café without another word.

Leaving Jay alone, with her heart breaking and her truth left unsaid.
