Not long after leaving school, Mike saw Georgie on the side of the road.
He was squatting with his back to the road under a tree, his shoulders heaving, looking very much like he was crying.
That's right, Georgie had just ended his unrequited love and had just watched his first love, Veronica, fall into someone else's arms.
With such a series of blows, it seemed perfectly reasonable for him to find a place to cry his heart out.
"Georgie, are you…?" Mike had originally intended to comfort him.
But when he got closer to the tree, he saw Georgie squatting on the ground with great interest, observing a line of ants moving.
And he was holding a small stick, disrupting the ants.
Although ants moving can be very appealing to boys, it must be said that Georgie truly has a big heart.
"Mike, why are you here?" Georgie said, hiding the small stick in his hand to the side.
Being seen by Mike in such a childish state made him a bit embarrassed.
"Oh, I'm here to give you something…" Mike said casually, then pulled out the notepaper and handed it to him.
Seeing the notepaper, Georgie thought of Veronica again. He said with a dejected expression, "You saw it all?"
Okay, it seems Georgie's heart isn't that big after all. His current state looks like he really needs someone to comfort him.
"Georgie, I completely understand how you feel…" Mike took on the role of a counselor and continued, "There are many good girls in the world, and there will always be one suitable for you, waiting for you ahead."
Perfect, Mike said what he had been holding back for a long time and had already prepared. He felt that he could now be considered a qualified "understanding big brother."
"I… you…" Georgie wanted to say that Mike, who had several beautiful girlfriends, simply didn't understand his feeling of losing his first love.
However, seeing Mike's kind expression, Georgie ultimately did not say it.
"I know you're hurting right now, but time is the best medicine; it will make you forget all your sadness." Mike continued to act as a life mentor.
Then, he even patted Georgie's shoulder to comfort him. Then, he called out to him and walked home together.
…
Sure enough, Mike's guidance was not entirely useless; in the following week, Georgie slowly emerged from the shadow of heartbreak.
When Friday afternoon arrived, after Dr. Sturgis's university class ended, he walked up to Mike and Sheldon and said, "I've joined a university research group. If you two are interested, you can continue to audit the research group this weekend."
Dr. Sturgis had discovered through this period of contact that both Mike and Sheldon were very intelligent. Normal university courses were no longer very useful for them; instead, participating in a professional research group might be beneficial for their future development.
Of course, Dr. Sturgis wouldn't be so kind for no reason; his invitation to Mike also had the intention of currying favor with Connie.
Yes, he was now learning how to become "mature."
Taking care of her family, in his opinion, was a sign of maturity.
"What is the research topic of your research group?" Sheldon, who loved science, was very interested in Dr. Sturgis's suggestion.
"It's about physics. As for the specific direction, I still need to discuss it further with Dr. Linkletter," Dr. Sturgis replied.
When he mentioned Dr. Linkletter, his tone was clearly not very good.
However, who else in the University of Texas had such a high level in physics besides Dr. Linkletter and Dr. Sturgis?
Even if Dr. Sturgis was very unwilling, in order for the project to proceed smoothly, he had no choice but to continue to be colleagues with Dr. Linkletter.
"Has the research topic not been decided yet?" Sheldon hesitated for a moment, then said, "I'm afraid I won't be free this weekend. I need to attend a science lecture."
"No problem." Dr. Sturgis smiled and said, "Determining a research topic is a very long process. Even if you agree to audit, it will be a few weeks from now."
Clearly, Dr. Sturgis's invitation was just a heads-up to Mike.
"That's great." Sheldon was relieved to see that the research project did not conflict with his science lecture.
Then, he added, "Once your research topic is determined, please be sure to inform me in a timely manner."
"I will," Dr. Sturgis nodded. Then he looked at Mike and said, "By the way, are you still in contact with Paige? If possible, I'd like her to join my research project as an auditing student as well."
Clearly, Dr. Sturgis was also very impressed with that genius girl.
Or rather, he greatly admired her.
"Paige hasn't contacted me during this time. However, I will convey your message to her," Mike responded.
Paige hadn't come to the University of Texas since attending Dr. Sturgis's lectures twice.
Even Mike, with whom she had a very good relationship, she hadn't contacted again.
"Alright, you two can wander around. I have something else to do." Dr. Sturgis saw Connie waiting at the door, so he didn't delay any longer.
While Dr. Sturgis and Connie were getting cozy to the side, Mike and Sheldon started wandering around the University of Texas.
"Mike, are you free tomorrow? I want you to come with me to the science lecture," Sheldon invited.
In his opinion, Mike spending his weekend time playing with girls was a complete waste of time and life.
"Where did you hear about the science lecture?" Mike asked curiously.
Mike knew that he would meet Paige again at this science lecture. Therefore, he had specifically paid attention to news in this area before.
However, the actual situation was that he still had no clue about the lecture, while Sheldon accurately knew the time of the lecture.
This puzzled Mike greatly.
"The newspaper. I saw the news about the lecture in this morning's newspaper," Sheldon said.
"So that's it." Mike's confusion was resolved.
He knew that the Cooper family family always had a habit of subscribing to newspapers, and of course, Connie's did too. However, after getting a computer, Mike rarely paid attention to newspapers.
"How about it? Do you want to come with me? I heard that the organizer of this lecture is an expert who has published personal books," Sheldon invited again.
"Of course, I'm actually very interested in science lectures too. Remember to call me when you leave tomorrow," Mike said with a smile.
The actual situation was that Mike hadn't seen Paige, that 'Sheep,' for a long time, and he didn't know how she was doing.
Mike was quite concerned about people who could provide him with intellectual primary attributes.
"Are you sure you want to go?" Now it was Sheldon's turn to be surprised. He completely didn't expect Mike to agree so readily this time.
One should know that on normal weekends, Mike usually spent most of his time with Cady and the other girls.
Even though Sheldon's emotional intelligence wasn't high, he realized that Cady and the others had a strong attraction for Mike.
"I'm sure." Mike nodded with a smile.
"Alright." Sheldon didn't delve deeper and continued, "Tonight at dinner, we'll discuss with George and have him take us to the science lecture tomorrow."
