Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: Scheming

Mike hung up the phone and had just comfortably laid down in his room.

Then, Connie's voice came from the living room: "Mike~ your call, it's another girl calling..."

Afterward, Connie asked for the caller's name and continued to shout to Mike: "She said her name is Karen~"

"Got it, Grandma. I'll be right there..." Mike sat up and responded.

When he walked out of his room, he saw Connie leaning against the wall, holding a beer in one hand and the phone in the other, chatting happily with the person on the other end.

Seeing Mike arrive, Connie, with a gossipy expression, handed him the phone: "Karen is a good girl, you two chat slowly, Grandma is going to sleep."

After speaking, Connie showed a meaningful expression, then, holding the beer, she wobbled back to her room.

"Karen, calling so late, is something wrong?" Mike took the phone and sat on the sofa.

"Not really." On the other end, the wavy-haired Karen lay on her pink bed, wiggling her round legs: "Are you free tomorrow, Mike? We can go shopping, Regina will come too."

In Regina's bedroom, on the third party line, she hugged a pillow and was very satisfied to hear Karen mention her.

"Tomorrow's not convenient, I already have plans," Mike said, leaning on the sofa.

"Damn it, ask him who he's meeting. Which damn little bitch is it!" Before Karen could speak, Regina, on the third-party call, immediately began to question him.

As the school's popular figure, this was Regina's first time actively asking Mike out, only to find out someone had beaten her to it.

The Queen Bee was clearly unhappy at this moment.

After comforting Regina, Karen changed channels and also asked curiously, "Mike, who is so lucky to have made plans with you first?"

Although Mike didn't know what Karen was thinking, he knew about the infighting among high school girls, so he cautiously didn't reveal Cady, but casually said, "A friend, invited me to their house for a casual meal."

Karen heard Mike's intention to decline and was sensible enough not to ask further.

Regina, who was listening in on the third line, said resentfully, "Who exactly made plans with him? Is it those little bitches from eleventh grade, or that country bumpkin Cady..."

In Regina's opinion, no girl in school could compare to her. And anything she set her sights on, no one could take away.

Karen realized that Regina was very dissatisfied with Mike's answer, so she quickly changed the subject: "Mike, which girl in our school do you think is the prettiest?"

Hearing this question, Regina immediately quieted down. On one hand, she was very confident, and on the other hand, being very vain, she wouldn't allow herself to lose to anyone.

"Karen, you're one..." Mike's lazy voice came from the phone.

Hearing this answer, Karen was momentarily ecstatic, and even her swinging legs unconsciously clamped together.

However, thinking that Regina, who was listening in on the third line, also heard this answer, Karen became conflicted again, her index finger constantly twirling her golden long hair.

Karen: To be with Mike, I have to go against Regina. This is too hard~

On the other side, Regina snorted coldly, highly displeased, and calculated in her mind, 'Sure enough, that little bitch Karen is secretly seducing Mike when I'm not paying attention...'

Just as the two girls were lost in their own thoughts, and their friendship was about to break, Mike continued: "Regina is also one, and Gretchen. The three of you in The Plastics are all very beautiful..."

The three girls in The Plastics were indeed outstanding in terms of figure and appearance. Even if other girls in the school could compare to them in looks, they were still far behind in terms of dressing, styling, and fashion sense.

When Regina heard Mike praise The Plastics, the hostility in her heart subsided a lot, and she even felt a little smugness.

After all, The Plastics was created by Regina, the Queen Bee, herself.

Karen, on the other hand, felt a little disappointed when Mike mentioned her two best friends again, but at the same time, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Karen: Finally, I don't have to go against Regina.

Having just ridden a roller coaster of emotions, she quickly said goodbye to Mike and swiftly ended the call before Regina could give her next instruction.

Looking at the phone that had been hastily hung up, Mike was a bit confused. He clearly felt that the wavy-haired girl had some thoughts about him.

'Did I misunderstand?' Mike touched his handsome face, shook his head, stopped overthinking, and got up to walk to his bedroom.

On the other side, the two girls' conversation continued.

"Tomorrow's shopping plan is canceled. You and Gretchen go and find out who made plans with Mike," Regina said, resuming her arrogant nature.

...

Early the next morning, before Mike was even awake, there was a knock at his door.

Opening the door, Mike was surprised to see the Coopers and Connie at the entrance.

They were all dressed very appropriately today.

Mary showed a devout smile and invited: "Mike, we're going to church for service, would you like to come along?"

Mary was a Christian, deeply believing that God could grant people happiness.

"No, I have other things to do today," Mike firmly refused. He didn't believe in anyone but himself.

"Oh, that's really a shame," Mary said with regret.

In her opinion, to be embraced by the Lord was a glorious thing.

"Mom~ Can I also not go to church like Mike? Scientific data proves that God doesn't exist..." Sheldon tugged at Mary's sleeve, pleading softly.

Missy and Georgie, seeing this, also looked at Mary hopefully.

The Coopers, except for Mary, were not Christians.

"No." Mary refused her children's request, and after proclaiming the greatness of God to Mike, she left with her family.

Connie walked at the very back. Before leaving, she turned back and instructed: "Mike, there's Grandma's secret roasted meat in the fridge. If you're hungry, you can eat some. If you go out, you can also bring some for your friends."

"Got it~" Mike smiled and waved goodbye.

After everyone left, Mike went back to his room for another nap.

It wasn't until late morning that he finally got up, full of energy.

After washing up, Mike changed into a smart casual outfit.

He was over six feet tall, with long legs, and a fit, slender physique. His neat, choppy hair was combed back, revealing delicate features.

With his absolute good looks, even a simple white T-shirt and black jeans were worn by Mike with a sense of style.

When he saw that it was almost time, he packed some roasted beef from the fridge and headed towards Cady's house.

Meanwhile, in the solemn church, the scientifically-minded Sheldon had a disagreement with Pastor Jeff about the existence of God.

Pastor Jeff tried to explain using probability: God's existence and non-existence both have a fifty percent chance.

Sheldon immediately stated: The smarter a person is, the more they believe in science.

Finally, Pastor Jeff cited: Mr. Darwin, the initiator of "The Theory of Evolution," was also a Christian.

At this, Sheldon, who couldn't think of how to refute the other party for a moment, could only sullenly sit back down on the bench.

Beside them, Mary and Connie, although they felt it was a bit inappropriate for Sheldon to debate with the pastor in church.

However, seeing Sheldon's dejected look after losing the debate, they both became displeased with Pastor Jeff.
