Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Escape from the DEAD lll

"...This is truly astonishing."

Saeko murmured in a voice that was almost lost amidst the echo of footsteps, her eyes fixed on Haru as he walked steadily ahead of them. His Kagune stretched out like lethal, ceaselessly moving arms, slicing through the zombies approaching him as if they were a massive meat grinder operating with chilling, terrifying precision.

The sounds of tearing flesh, shattering bones, and exploding blood echoed through the empty corridors, creating an inescapable, revolting symphony. With each squelch of pulverized flesh, Sora and Kazu's stomachs churned more violently, until they ended up vomiting repeatedly onto the floor, its original color now indistinguishable.

As for Shizuka, her face was pale to a worrying degree, her body trembling slightly, yet she hadn't lost control like the other two. All she could do was place a hand over her mouth and stare at the massacre before her with eyes wide in shock.

Saeko alone… was completely different.

The sight of Haru carving his path through the moving corpses didn't evoke fear within her, but something else… something that ignited in her depths like an ember glowing brighter.

Her long hair obscured part of her face, but what lay hidden behind it was more chaotic than her calm appearance suggested; her cheeks were flushed, her breathing was erratic in her chest, and her chest rose and fell deeply as if the air had become heavier than she was used to.

She stared at Haru's back without blinking, her eyes gleaming with an undeniable glint.

Seeing his power like this… witnessing his brutal transformation… watching the Kagune operate like a living killing machine…

All of it was igniting an excitement within her that she couldn't deny—and couldn't fully control.

She was struggling hard to appear calm… but her heart, the heat of her body, and her burning gaze betrayed the truth she tried to hide.

She was feeling aroused; there was even a crystalline fluid flowing down her thighs.

'I'm wet!' she screamed internally while biting her lips hard to prevent others from noticing her strange state.

But unfortunately, there were two present who possessed strength surpassing that of ordinary humans, and they noticed her strangeness.

'That milk cow!' Sora gritted her teeth in anger and annoyance as she heard the sound of Saeko's heavy breathing and caught a foul, familiar scent from the girl. Despite Saeko's long skirt hiding the matter, she was certain the girl's underwear was soaked through by now.

"...Is she really aroused?"

Haru froze in place for a moment, the thought striking his head like lightning as he glimpsed Saeko from the corner of his eye. He immediately regretted even thinking it… as if the question itself was a sin in this situation filled with blood and screams.

But Saeko's features left him no room for doubt or escape from the truth.

Her face was flushed to a degree that almost rivaled the warmth of the blood spread around them, and her chest rose and fell with heavy, unsteady breaths. And her eyes… those bright blue eyes… were fixed on his back with a dreamy, almost glassy gaze, as if she saw nothing in the world but him.

It wasn't a look of fear.

Nor shock.

Not even ordinary excitement…

But something deeper and more dangerous.

That moment reminded Haru of something he had forgotten amidst his constant fighting:

The title he obtained from the starter pack—"Crazy Lure."

And suddenly, his eyes widened slightly.

Of course… Now everything made sense.

Saeko, with her personality, her combat nature, and her tendencies linked to violence and power… was exactly the type the title would directly affect.

"Damn it…" he muttered inside his head, quickly turning his face away to avoid meeting her gaze, which was almost burning through his back.

He didn't need any system to tell him what was happening—he could see the result with his own eyes.

And strangely… this made him more tense than the zombies themselves.

"We're here."

Haru said in a calm tone, stopping before the staff room door on the third floor. Despite his words, the Kagune showed no intention of stopping; it still moved behind him like a predatory beast, tearing apart the surrounding zombies with a speed that left none of them even a chance to scream.

Fortunately, their numbers weren't large on this floor, and with the monstrous power Haru displayed, everything ended within seconds.

And as soon as the last zombie fell motionless, the Kagune quietly retracted, returning to his back and disappearing as if it had never existed, leaving his skin and clothes clean without a trace.

Even his shirt wasn't torn despite that fleshy mass emerging from him moments before, which amazed everyone—Haru had been able to control its form so it passed through specific openings without damaging his clothes.

"I didn't expect it to be this easy…"

Shizuka commented as she caught her breath, seeming to gradually adapt to the scenes that had terrified her just minutes ago.

"We barely had a chance to do anything."

Kazu said with a hint of bitterness. Apart from a few zombies attacking from behind, neither he nor Sora had any opportunity to participate… Haru handled everything alone, with a speed that astonished them all.

Thunk!

Thunk!

Thunk!

They stopped moving immediately.

As Haru reached for the handle of the staff room door, a muffled sound pierced the corridor—not a gunshot, but not far from it either. It was closer to a heavy impact… a sound anyone who had seen a nail gun in action would recognize.

The group exchanged cautious glances, but they didn't need long to identify its source.

From the end of the corridor, a large-bodied man appeared, holding a Nail Gun crudely modified with some materials available at the school. He held it with strange confidence, as if he had used it more often than a real gun.

Behind him, a girl with pink hair tied in two tails moved with quick steps to catch up as they approached Haru's group without hesitation.

And clearly… neither side had expected to meet the other here.

The appearance of the burly man and the pink-haired girl alone wasn't what caught their attention; from the other side of the corridor, the group also saw two young people running towards them with the same urgency.

The girl was carrying a long Mop Handle, its end torn apart and fashioned into something resembling a crude spear, held firmly as if it were a professional weapon. Beside her, the boy was wielding a Metal Bat, its ends stained with dark patches of congealed blood.

Their advance wasn't panicked; they moved with clear steadiness—as if what they had faced before reaching here wasn't merely an attempt to survive, but a battle they had genuinely fought.

Their clothes were torn in several places, and the drops of blood covering them from head to toe weren't their own; they were silent witnesses to the number of zombies they had taken down on their way to this floor.

Their appearance alone was enough to show that the school didn't just contain survivors…

But real fighters who had found their own way to live amidst the catastrophe.
