After the Brotherhood ran away, the mansion became quiet.
While the younger X-Men cleaned up the lawn, the adults gathered in the study.
Professor Xavier, Magneto, Ororo, and Logan sat around a large table.
Magneto came back because he had something to tell them.
He was still pale because of the power he witnessed.
He had never seen power like Olivia's.
"Charles,"
Magneto said, his voice shaking.
"We have a bigger problem than our argument. My spies have found out about the government's new plan."
The Professor looked worried.
"The Registration Act?"
"Worse,"
Magneto replied.
"They have made a serum. A 'cure.' It destroys the X-Gene. If they use it, they can take away our powers forever. But it is dangerous. The side effects could be deadly."
They all looked out the window at Axel and Olivia. The two teenagers were sitting on the grass with the other students.
"We cannot fight the whole government alone,"
Ororo said.
"But Stan Lee... he is the most famous and powerful man in the country. If he speaks for us, the government will listen. He has the influence to stop this."
"The problem is,"
Logan growled,
"Stan is always busy in other dimensions. We can't reach him. Our only hope is to ask those two kids to help us."
Outside, the mood was much lighter.
Anna (Rogue) was sitting next to Axel.
Usually, she stayed far away from people.
If she touched skin, she would steal their energy and memories. It made her feel like a monster.
But right now, Anna was crying tears of joy. She was holding Axel's hand tightly.
She was touching his bare skin, and nothing was happening to him. She didn't feel the painful "drain" she usually felt.
"I can touch you..."
Anna sobbed, her voice full of happiness.
"I'm not hurting you! I can finally feel someone's warmth."
Axel looked at her, blinking his eyes. He looked very confused.
"Uh, yeah? It's just a hand, Anna. Why are you crying? You're acting really weird. Is the pizza at this school that bad?"
WHACK!
A thick book slammed into the back of Axel's head. Olivia stood behind him, holding her future-book with a cold look on her face.
"Ow! Sis! What was that for?"
Axel yelled, rubbing his head.
"You are an idiot, Axel,"
Olivia said.
"She has spent her whole life alone because she couldn't touch anyone. This is the first time she has felt human contact without causing pain. Be nice and be sensitive."
Axel pouted.
"I am being nice! I'm letting her hold my hand, aren't I?"
Olivia sighed and sat down next to Rogue.
"Don't mind him, Anna. He has the brain of a bird."
Olivia reached out and took Rogue's other hand.
"You can touch me too. It is okay."
Rogue gasped. She tried to pull her power back, but she realized she didn't have to.
Axel and Olivia's power was so dense and massive that Rogue's ability couldn't even scratch them.
It was like trying to drink the entire ocean through a tiny paper straw.
The straw would break before the ocean even noticed.
"You both are so... solid,"
Rogue whispered, wiping her eyes.
"It feels like I'm touching a mountain that will never move."
Back in the house, the adults watched this. Magneto was stunned.
"She is touching them? Rogue can't even touch me without me feeling a drain."
"They aren't just strong, Eric,"
Charles said.
"Their energy is infinite."
Jean Grey walked over to the siblings.
"Axel, Olivia... the Professor wants to talk to you. The government… they try to hurt us…"
Axel stood up, pulling Rogue up with him.
"Hurt who? My friends?"
His wild smile disappeared. For a second, the temperature on the lawn rose by ten degrees.
A small spark of God Fire flickered in his eyes.
"Grandpa Stan told us to learn how to be human,"
Axel said, his voice deep and serious.
"And humans protect their friends. If the government wants to play dirty, they're going to find out."
Olivia stood up too. She dusted off her skirt.
"We will talk to the Professor. If we have to, we will send a message to Great Grandpa."
