Kade accepted the glass but did not drink immediately. He studied the dark liquid for a moment before answering.
"I don't know."
It was an unusual admission from him, but he had no reason to pretend otherwise. He had not anticipated this outcome, and the truth had left him with more questions than answers.
He knew Dakota would be devastated when she learned what had happened. Regardless of what Richard and Luna might have done, they were still the people she had believed were her parents. Discovering that they had been connected to the curse that hurt her son would be painful enough.
Learning that they had died before she could confront them or demand an explanation would only make the situation more complicated.
And now they were dead.
Kade took a slow sip of wine, his expression remaining serious.
