When he returned she was leaning against Thomas with her eyes closed, spent from crying, her hand still holding Luna's.
"We should let her rest," Callum said quietly.
Thomas nodded without moving away from his sister, and Victor looked toward the beds.
"We'll stay until she's ready to leave."
No one objected.
Beyond the door the hospital went on with its ordinary routines, nurses passing in the corridor and voices carrying faintly from somewhere else, but inside the room none of it seemed to reach them. After a while Maya opened her eyes and looked at Victor.
"What happens now?"
He drew his chair closer to hers. "Now we stay here. Tomorrow we'll decide what to do about the ceremony."
"And after that?"
Victor held her gaze. "We'll deal with it when we get there."
