Chapter 79 - The Anchor and the Self

There were no more tears.

Ravine had cried until her voice was broken, until her body felt hollow, until even the shadows had quieted in respect. Now, she sat curled in the crook of Arana's arms on the floor of that quiet room. The fire had dimmed. Time had slowed. But Arana remained, a steady presence, saying nothing, asking nothing.

Hours passed like water.

Neither of them moved.

Eventually, Arana shifted gently, laying a hand on Ravine's back.

"I'll make tea," she said softly.

Ravine didn't answer, but she nodded. The air had the fragile stillness of something sacred.

The sound of Arana preparing the tea drifted in like a quiet rhythm: the clink of ceramic, the whisper of leaves, the boil of water.

When she returned, she set the cup in front of Ravine without a word.

Ravine took it in both hands. The warmth bled into her fingers, then her chest.

"Thank you," she murmured. "For not asking. For not... trying to fix it. For just being there."

Arana gave a small smile.

"You were never broken," she said. "Just full."

Ravine blinked, then looked down at the tea.

"You anchored me. When I was floating between lives. Between names. Between truths I didn't want."

She sipped.

The silence that followed wasn't tense. It breathed. It allowed.

Later, Ravine returned to her room.

The basin outside remained unchanged. The ruin still waited in the distance. But something inside her had shifted.

She stood in front of the mirror.

Her reflection gazed back: worn, weathered, but whole.

No longer Ravine the seeker.

No longer the ghost of Maelon.

Just the one who remembered.

The one who endured.

The one who chose to remain.

She rested her fingers lightly on the Bloom at her chest.

"This is me," she whispered.

And this time, it didn't ache to say it.
