Lyra's POV
My jaw dropped open. How did he figure it out?
Before I could even attempt to explain, Alaric stepped protectively in front of me. His eyes turned cold as steel when he looked at Ash.
"Don't be ridiculous, Ironwood," he said with authority. "Miss Cooper lacks her wolf. I'm simply helping her try to awaken it."
He glanced back at me with wide, meaningful eyes. Follow my lead, his expression said. Though I doubted Ash would buy whatever story we tried to sell.
"Right," Ash let out a harsh laugh. "Good luck with that fantasy."
"Mind your tone, Ironwood," Alaric's voice turned dangerous. "Need I remind you that you just barged into a private training session? Perhaps detention would help you remember proper boundaries."
"My apologies, Professor," Ash replied, though his tone held zero remorse. "It's eight thirty. Basic Combat starts in an hour. I reserve the hour before class every day."
