Chapter 31 - Realisation And First Battle

Most of it went exactly like the anime.

That realization hit Ren halfway through All Might explaining the matchups, and it settled in quietly, like a piece clicking into place.

Except this time, he wasn't watching from a screen.

He was standing on the battlefield.

"All right!" All Might announced, pointing dramatically. "Your teams have been decided!"

Ren glanced at the board and paused.

His partner was Rikido Sato.

Tall. Broad. Muscular. Constantly cheerful. The kind of guy whose presence made tight spaces feel smaller.

Ren blinked once.

…Right.

That's when it clicked.

The boy with the animal-speaking Quirk.

That was who he'd replaced.

Huh.

Well. That explained a few things.

Sato leaned over, grinning. "Looks like we're together! Let's do our best!"

Ren nodded. "Yeah. Let's."

As me and my partner were waiting near the nuclear weapon as we were the villain team

Across the field, our opponents were already moving.

Yuga Aoyama and Mina Ashido.

Mina bounced on her heels. "Ooo~ physical types! Let's not let them get close, Aoyama!"

Aoyama struck a pose, hand already glowing faintly. "Oui! I shall dazzle them from afar!"

After sometime Mina and Aoyama were fairly close , how do i know that easy i could feel there nervousness , it was pretty easy as there were not many people around in the test site.

As they tried to ambush us i was ready , when suddenly appeared.

Aoyama fired.

A clean laser shot, straight and fast, aimed to force movement.

Ren stepped forward instead of back.

His arm moved once—no wind-up, no hesitation.

A thin, sharp arc cut through the air.

The laser split.

Not dispersed. Not deflected.

Cut.

The severed energy fizzled out harmlessly before it could reach them.

There was a split second of silence.

"…Eh?" Mina blinked.

Sato stared. "Whoa!"

Ren didn't stop.

He moved.

Aoyama and Mina retreated instinctively, darting toward cover as acid splashed against the ground between them and their opponents.

Ren adjusted his path smoothly, boots gripping the surface as he closed the distance—not rushing, not reckless.

Another slash.

This one wasn't aimed at them.

It tore through the structure they were hiding behind.

Concrete split. Metal buckled. Their cover collapsed inward with a sharp crack.

Mina jumped back, eyes wide. "Hey! That was supposed to be solid!"

Sato charged forward at the same time, empowered by sugar, forcing pressure from the front.

Aoyama fired again—wider this time, trying to herd them—but Ren's response was immediate. Two quick arcs intersected the beam, breaking its momentum and leaving nothing but fading sparks.

The battlefield shrank rapidly.

Mina tried to reposition, skating sideways on acid, but without stable cover, her movements became reactive instead of planned.

Ren advanced steadily, controlling space rather than chasing.

One more slash—low, precise.

The ground fractured just ahead of her, cutting off the route entirely.

"Time!" All Might's voice boomed.

The match was over.

Aoyama slumped dramatically. "C'est impossible…!"

Mina stared at the destroyed terrain, then at Ren. "Okay, that was NOT fair."

Ren relaxed his stance, energy settling back into stillness.

Sato laughed loudly, clapping him on the back. "That was amazing! We crushed it!"

The analysis followed—just like in the anime.

All Might spoke about teamwork, positioning, assumptions. How relying too heavily on perceived archetypes could be dangerous.

Ren listened quietly.

He didn't need the praise.

But he liked it a little .

Back in the locker area, classmates gathered around him, curiosity obvious.

"How did you cut the laser?"

"Was that your Quirk?"

"Can you do that all the time?"

Ren answered simply. Honestly. Without elaborating.

At the end of it all, All Might approached him.

"Ren," he said warmly. "Time for quirk re evaluation has been scheduled

Ren nodded. "Okay."

"And," All Might added, lowering his voice slightly, "the principal has agreed to meet you as well."

Ren didn't react outwardly.

"Understood," he said.

As All Might walked away, Ren exhaled slowly.

He no longer worried about conserving everything so tightly.

There would be enough.

Plenty, in fact.

The future—whatever shape it took—was already moving.

And this time, he was right in the middle of it.
