Without a sound Bai Lingling dipped her hand into her coral space. When her hand came out, they held a single, gleaming gold bar.
As Bai Lingling placed the gold bar in front of Uncle Shen and the rest, their eye balls almost popped out.
By the heavens!Their young miss, who they had just moments ago pitied for her impoverished state, possessed such wealth?
Uncle Shen, a man who had weathered battles and betrayals, felt his mouth go dry. In their current state, they had been prepared to savor the very bark of trees for sustenance!
To the poor subordinates like Uncle Shen, they could even have nibbled the
bark. The gold bar that Ji Fengyan was holding on to was like a dream to
them.
Truly, their young mistress had changed in ways both bewildering and awe inspiring. First, a newfound fiery spirit. Now, a hidden fortune. Had she been touched by fate's favor? Or perhaps… encountered a celestial benefactor?
Bai Lingling observed their thunderstruck faces and a sliver of doubt pierced her heart. Have I misstepped? she worried silently.
What if this world trades in spirit stones or jade alone, and gold is but a common metal? Her bold facade wavered for a breath.
She had been too bold earlier and had simply assumed that her gold bar in this world will be really useful. But now shs really wish she had tried to ask first.
"Young miss… This gold bar...where did it come from…" Uncle Shen mumbled.
Bai Lingling looked up at him and saw that his expression did not mean a bad thing but a good thing so she gained her confidence back and laughed.
"You don't have to know about it. Just take it."
She had been unsure whether this
world could use gold but looking at Uncle Shen's reaction, it would not be a
problem.
The gold bar was something she had acquired while traveling and cultivating through her life.
Bai Lingling was naturally the kind of girl who loved gambling on everything as far as she could have benefits from it, especially money she did not mind.
"That's… That's too much… I don't dare to take it…" Uncle Shen suttered, staring at the once timid little girl he thought he knew. His
hands were even shaking.
"Uncle Shen, take this," Bai Lingling said as she shoved a very wrinkled note into his hands.
"Please go to the city and buy food. Actual food. My stomach is crying. I'm about to faint again and it won't be dramatic this time."
Uncle Shen blinked, confused, but she continued talking.
"And..." she pointed dramatically "...if you see any shop that sells herbs or pills or anything that looks even slightly medicinal, buy it. All of it. I don't care. Just grab everything that smells like healing."
She crossed her arms, nodding to herself.
"I need to fix my face, my core, my life… honestly everything is broken right now."
Uncle Shen stared at the note like it contained ancient secrets.
Bai Lingling sighed loudly.
"Just go. Before I faint again."
Those herbs she wrote down were all things she remembered from her past life, so honestly… she had no idea if this world even had them. Maybe yes, maybe no. She would find out.
Uncle Shen held the list like it was some heavenly scripture and squinted at it.
He couldn't help feeling confused.
Why was their young miss suddenly asking them to buy a mountain of medicine? Did she plan to open a pharmacy? Cure the entire city? Start a side business?
He wanted to ask, he really did… but one look at Bai Lingling's face and he swallowed the question back down immediately.
Better not die today.
So he quickly waved two guards over, picking the ones who were at least still able to walk straight.
"You two, come with me. We're going to the city," Uncle Shen ordered, already marching off like a man who accepted his fate.
The guards glanced at the long weird list, then at each other.
"…Why does it look like young miss wants to resurrect someone?"
"Shh! Don't ask. Just buy."
And off they went.
"Young Miss, what are we supposed to do with this dog?" a bodyguard asked, as he stared at the bored Mo Lingxu who had been licking a paw of his leisurely.
But the moment he heard the way the guard addressed him, his gaze darkend and locked on the guard.
The guard immediately felt like the energy in the room shifted and this dog did not seem like it was ordinary, still he could not prove it so he simply adverted his gaze from the dog that was staring him down.
