Adrian woke up with a sharp gasp,his body jerking upright as if sound has exploded inside his chest . His room was queit,washed in pale morning light .The ceiling fan spun lazily above him uncaring .
He placed a hand over his heart, Fast! But normal.
"I' am fine," he muttered more to convince himself than anything else.
The dream was always the same.No faces,No clear place,just a dark emptyness.Numbers falling one by one , and a strange certainty that he was supposed to stop something before it's reach zero.
And every time, the dream end .
He got ready for school , letting habit guide his hand , wear uniform , take his bag and go outside . The street looked exactly like always . Shop shutters rising , distant horns , people moving with purpose . Normal life .
At school , he took his seat near the window . The teacher begins writing on the board , numbers lining up neatly in chalk. Adrian felt a faint chill crawl up his finger.
He opened his notebook .
On the last page , written neatly , was the Countdown .
10..9..8..7 to 1 but not zero again .
Adrian stared at it longer then he should have , then slowly closed the notebook , as if it might bite him .
All day a queit thought followed him , growing havier with every passing hour.....
He wasn't dreaming about the Countdown .
The Countdown was dreaming about him.
And somewhere , it has already begun.
